Charmed better than BtVS and why:

The Buffy fan creed

I (insert name) am a devoted fan of Buffy and a worshiper of Joss. I believe charmed is a poorly done, second-rate, cheap rip-off of Buffy and refuse to watch the sister witches. Because I do not watch the sister witches, I have no basis of fairness in a debate between them and Buffy. I just might skim through a couple Charmed episodes while drunk, but otherwise I wouldn't watch it at all.

That sounds about right, eh?

And to answer something from previous posts:
Sandra and Odin are elders. They can be seen chatting with Leo at the start of season seven's "The seven year witch" episode.

Many of the posters in this thread have admitted( though I do know shame lay heavy on their hearts) to watching Charmed from start to finish.

Anyway, you've read N4H's, here's how my bio would go.

I, Fiver, am a devoted fan of Buffy and have a grudging respect for Joss. I refuse to watch charmed because it has the dumbest fans I have ever met. It doesn't take a huge leap in logic to realise the show must service the fans limited needs. I was informed by Drogyn that Charmed is in fact a poorly done, second-rate, cheap rip-off of Buffy. Understanding that Drogyn does NOT lie, I know that what he says about it must be true. Because I have no desire to commit suicide, I do not punish myself by watching Charmed. I just might skim through a couple Charmed episodes while horny, but otherwise I wouldn't watch it at all.

Dumbest fans you've ever met! I hope I'm not in that category! I'm not dumb, I just like watching Charmed cos I can switch off for an hour!

Mesektet Ra's Buffy Fan Creed
I, Mesektet Ra, am a devoted fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and worshipper of Joss. I, too, realize that Charmed is a poor, second-rate, cheap rip off of Buffy because the show is so mind-numbingly stupid it makes me want to kill myself. I try to stay away from trite annoyances of television, hence the lack of watching a TV show that makes my eyes numb. I have also watched Charmed before, and KNOW for a fact that I consider it a first rate piece of shite.

I might skim through a couple episodes while bored, drunk, or otherwise mentally impaired, but other than that, I shall never watch it voluntarily.

I have officially decided that there's no place for people like you here. Because honestly, you have just pissed me off. Your argument is quite possibly the most worthless excuse of a worthwhile debate I have never seen. And, despite given the facts that PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD HAVE WATCHED EVERY EPISODE OF CHARMED, you continue to patronize us and the show we admire in favor of an idiotic piece of drivel that shouldn't be in the same SENTENCE as Buffy, much less the same thread or even BOARD.

If you're going to fight us, do some research, BE SMART. Come up with DECENT reasons. If you can't do that, quit while you're ahead, because you're fighting a losing battle.

The Buffy fan creed

I Ashley, am a devoted fan of Buffy and an admirer of Joss for his writing. I believe Charmed is sometimes poorly done, second-rate, cheap rip-off of Buffy, and that was the shows intention. I have seen every episode the sister witches, and sometimes watch repeats when im bored. Because I do watch the sister witches, I have a basis of fairness in a debate between them and Buffy.

And the bitca in me wants to say "Typical Charmed fan, they need everything clearly labelled and needly done for them, as they wouldn't be able to put together the pieces themselves" but that would just being mean for the sake of it. As I, and others have said, I have watched Charmed for many a moon and consider it a fine piece of entertainment. I also watch Buffy, and consider it a quality piece of television history. Because face it, yes Charmed may have the longest time of female leads, but at the end of the day when people think of enpowered females on television they think of Buffy. There have been many pop-cult references to Buffy, but I can only think of one or two incidences of Charmed being referred to. Fifteen years down the line, Buffy will still be cited as the pinacle (or maybe one of the forerunners, because I really can't predict what will come between now and then) of strong enpowered women on television.

Besides you can say how the charmed ones have all their history but theres some huge gaps (and not to mention plotholes). Middle names, do they have any? Why were they all named beginning with 'P'. I know the were all named with the same letter because thats how Patty gets her kicks, but other than Patty there are no Halliwells with 'P's. Who are these six (and for a while four before they realised the error of their ways) men Grams married. They showed one or two but the other fourish? How was it Paige went to the 60s and saw her grandmother being a hippy, and then in forty years she somehow ended up with 30-year old grandchildren? Why did Grams never come to see Wyatt for so long? Why hasn't Patty seen either of the babies? Why is Phoebe constantly horny? Where did Sam go between season five and season eight?

LMAO!!! "Why is Phoebe constantly horny"
Well again I will state my opinion... I have watched Charmed since it was first aired and have watched Buffy & Angel from the start, and I still love both.. but I do think Buffy is a better show... (my opinion) and CC, I know what you are saying... Charmed focused on the Charmed ones and their family... Buffy (hence the title) focused on Buffy... and there was family history (not as much as charmed) Buffy had a broken family.. we know about her cousin who was killed... and her dad... and Buffy's friends family , like Willow's family is jewish and Xander.. hmm dont start.. his uncle an alcoholic.. Buffy focuses more on Buffy, the scoobies and baddies.... not so much family (of course Buffy still had family and friends within the show).. because that isnt wat the show is about...

and CC ok that kinda made me annoyed... at every show you look at, most shows have metaphors embedded within the show... so.. Charmed is more apparent/understandable as its target audience is aimed at a younger audience... Buffy is more mature?

Have you watched the Episode Family. Buffy pretty much sums it up with one line.
"We're family."
The show is based around a family. Not all families are perfect most marriages end in divorce and the one's that don't are full of un happy people. In life we learn to build a family around us. And that's what all these people did.

Personally Charmed makes no sense the storylines go nowhere. It makes no sense all these people are related but they weren't even born to the same parents. It's just stupid.

agreeing with you there!
ok, obviously I have missed something... this topic always seems to raise arugements... I like Charmed... does that make me dumb?? But I also like Buffy... and yes as before I have said that Buffy is defintely a better show... and we have all our opinions... and someone has just 'stated' that a particular show is better.. that isnt true.. because it isnt about what you think.. its about what you like.. and obviously CC... you are a huge charmed fan... and love charmed more than buffy... well.. we have told you that we all like buffy better than charmed and we think it is a better show.. ... and you are throwing all these debatable arguements at us which we have had many comebacks at... so can we please leave it at this.. most of us here have said their opinion... and most of us think Btvs is better... (this is a Buffy Board!) so if you want to talk about a topic like this.. how bout posting one on a charmed forum... so there are no fights/arguements..

Following in CC's and MR wonderful footsteps.

I Jessica, am a devoted fan of buffy, and an admirer of Joss for his writing. I believe Charmed is sometimes poorly done, second-rate, cheap rip-off of Buffy, and that was the shows intention. I have tried to avoid watching Charmed for these reason but on occasion will watch them for the sake of it. (Kinda like when I bang my head against a wall repeatedly)

SOMETIMES Charmed works for me. More so in the early seasons. Oftentimes the best ideas are spent early in a show's run. From the first season the series premiere "Something Wicca This Way Comes" was pretty good, I liked "That 70s Episode" with their mother Patty very much, and the finale "Déjà  Vu All Over Again" was sad and sweet-as well as thought provoking! And yes, there were good episodes in the later seasons as well. The family theme seemed to work well. Still, I pretty much gave up on the show more than two years ago.

Ahhhh, Somebody that's been able to say what I've been trying to say.
I guess I should have thrown in Charmed's early seasons were great and the more recent ones have...how you say--sucked.
Once the show passed "A Paige from the past" it quickly went downhill.

I have been a fan of Buffy and Charmed since they both started. I am a member of a Charmed forum as well as here, but I'm a realistic person and I know that Charmed Sucks... I still watch it and have enjoyed some of Season 8's episodes but I can see that they are no way as good as the first 3 Seasons episodes. Charmed lost it's creator and head writer Constance at the end of Season 3 that is going to affect the continuity of a show. BTVS is just better developed. I can't believe some of your arguments. They are so easy to argue against!

I'm sorry did you not read my earlier argument properley! I believe the larger text is saying that I enjoy Charmed but i can see that it has gone downhill.

Also I'm loving the way you are ignoring the opinions you don't agree with and replying to the ones you do! Really mature!

Don't get me wrong I can see why you started this topic but it's like you've walked into a hornets nest! It's like me going on a Charmed board and starting a Buffy is better than Charmed thread! I jut wouldn't do it. It's social suicide!

yep.. with you on that one
Personally, they are both my third favourite shows, they both have good actors, and good writers. but i feel that buffy's season 4 was weak and Charmed's season 8 is weak too.

Angel is better then both but Doctor Who is better then Angel.

Angel is good and scary but DW is scarier!

Anyway, i think that Charmed may have alot more characters but Buffy has better stories for the characters

ok, obviously I have missed something... this topic always seems to raise arugements... I like Charmed... does that make me dumb??

No no, most of us have said we also like Charmed, but came to the conclusion its not on the same level as Buffy. Maybe thats a little arrogant but as I said; I'll say Charmed isn't as smart, but I'll also say I watch it.

Nope. Its someone that agrees with you partially. Yeah its a nice warm loving family, but I wouldn't say they have the huge backstory you seem to be suggesting.

VERY well said hon!
A note about back story...

Don't forget that BTVS started when our characters were 15. There is no need for an episode where we revisit (as Prue, Paige and iirc Phoebe did) their teen years because we were seeing their teen years as they happened. And how much more did we really learn in That 70's Episode about Little Prue, Piper and Phoebe than we learned from Buffy talking about wanting to be Dorothy Hamill or Willow and Xander fighting over crayons and barbies?

"That 70s episode" explains why the adult sisters did not know about their heritage when the series started. It was not meant to be what were they like as youngsters.
Sure, the writers could have just had their grandmother show up from beyond and just give a little speech, but an epsidoe explains it better.

ok, i tried to stay out of this thread, i really did. but i just HAd to offer my opinion.
i watch both shows, and have seen every episode of both of them...but i have to agree with most people and say that Charmed does not hold a candle to BTVS. when i sit down to watch an ep of Charmed, when it's over, nothing stays with me. i don't usually think 'I wonder what happens next?' and i don't really care that Pheobe still isn't pregnant with her future child.
when BTVS was still airing, and we were all tuning in every week to see the new eps, i was ALWAYS left wondering 'OMG!! what's going to happen next?!'
BTVS has inspired me in so many ways, with fanfic and fanart and a lot of other things in my life. it inspired me to come here and meet all of these wonderful people.
Charmed has never made me feel that way. yes, i admit, that i did join a Charmed website about a year ago, and i think i posted a total of 50 posts and then left, here i've got over 2000 posts. that place just didn't click with me the way this place does.
i do like Charmed, but it will NEVER take the place of BTVS or ATS in my heart.

and Chasing Cordy, if you can't accept other peoples opinions, why are you here talking to us?

Well then why are you arguing that Buffy didn't show us what the characters were like before the show?

I think the problem with this thread comes from the fact that you guys are trying to compare the Buffy series to Charmed in a side by side manner. This is not fair.
Buffy came out first, so there is no way Charmed could have its following before or at the same time Buffy did.

I have seen many posts here asking questions as to why various things happen.
Things like why do all the girls have names beginning with a "P" and why is it that the final scene of every season ends with doors closing.
These are just items that make the show unique.
As for the 4-6 husbands of Grams...that's not an issue. I know I bring up history being important, but all the 4-6 husbands are trying to prove is that Grams did not have much luck in the marriage department (which gives indications of why she is the way she is).

It seems funny that folks claim Charmed is for shallow thinkers, but some folks can't seem to understand it.

So why is it that if Buffy doesn't explain something fully It's leaving out vital information, but when Charmed does it, it's adding to the uniqueness of the show??

Your using double standards!

No, i think the problem with this thread is you are trying to compare Charmed to Buffy in a side by side manner, hence your title 'Charmed better then BTVS and Why'.
You can't begin a thread citing comparisons then when people en masse disagree with your poor attempts at an argument cry that you can't compare them.
Now as for your 'Buffy came first argument' that is the last defence of a broken argument. IF the show is good enough, it would not matter what else is playing people would tune in on a regular basis.
For instance, Smallville another Genre show came after Buffy(and Charmed) yet its following actually increases year on year. It follows the same basic premise of Buffy- One person with super strength takes on the evil forces of the world with a select group of friends- could this be compared with Buffy of course.

This part is another aspect of your very poor attempts at aruging for a truly inferior show such as Charmed.
You want Buffy to have shows dedicated to the history of a some Teenagers
yet this show that you are trying for Buffy to emulate not only forgets its own historical facts, it actually doesn't answer the simple questions put forth by a few people. I could guarantee that if you has something as significant to the plot as calling all the related members a name with the same first consonant in Buffy, it would have some relevance and be explored by the show.

It seems funny that folks claim Charmed is for shallow thinkers, but some folks can't seem to understand it.
I know Buffy Summers, i have been warned for my next comment but it truly fits here.
Chasing Cordy you are truly absurd!
How have you managed to come to the conclusion that no one here 'gets' this pissant of a show called Charmed based on these comments.
Granted you obviously didn't understand Buffy(probably down to the big words and all) but from most of your answers and your self contradiction you have apparently no grasp of Charmed either.
I fear you should take all your Charmed box-sets, memorabilia and 'I wanna be a Witch' stickers and find some small cave without internet connection as to not air your apparent ignorance ever again.
