Charmed compared to the Buffyverse

* Have you seen Charmed and do you like it?

Yes, I loved the first 5 seasons of Charmed and I loved the first 3 seasons more. It was more dark and believable. Plus Prue was a lot better than Paige in my opinion. I just couldn't connect to Paige the way I did with Prue. Although Piper was always my favourite Charmed sister.

* If you don't like it, why?

Only seasons 6, 7 and 8 annoyed me. I gave up halfway through season 8 trying to enjoy it but I did watch it to the end. For me Brad Kern pissed all over Charmed when he took over from Constance M Burge. He didn't fulfill the fans wishes and seemed to never get over the whole Shannon Doherty firing which happened years ago. He could have bought the ending of Charmed with a better conclusion that could have left fans satisfied.

* If you do like it, why?

Like I said before to me the first 3 seasons were the best. They felt more real and had that same familiar feeling to Buffy. It felt like it could be real even though it wasn't. Prue, Piper and Phoebe's sisterly bond was a lot stronger and there was no happy la la la magic.

* Would you compare it to Buffy/Angel?

Never. Buffy & Angel were totally different to Charmed, the quality in the programmes says it all.

* Do you think it's fair to compare it to the Buffyverse?

The same reason above. The Buffyverse is a lot stronger and more enriched for you to really think about. There are a lot of different paths in the Buffyverse that still lead back to the same point. Charmed doesn't have that at all, which is sad because if it had stayed on the path of the first 3 seasons I think it could have been equally great.

What's not to like? Three really hot sisters, adding in other hot girls (omg Billy *drools*). LOL seriously, seriously, I loved it. I've only seen it once, and it was a long ass time ago, but I fairly enjoyed it. I like anything sci-fi, fantasy ish. So once I saw a few episodes, I fell in love <3

Would you compare it to Buffy/Angel?
Hell to the NO. I would never compare it to BtVS/AtS

Do you think it's fair to compare it to the Buffyverse?
No. I really don't think it's fair to compare it. I mean yeah, they both hail from the fantasy land, but come on really? Those two shows were a huge success compared to Charmed. Like Joss said: "Hell is a place where Charmed is played 24/7" or some crap like that

lol, well I used to (especially on Nip/Tuck) but after a while I just felt that his and Phoebe's story got old and they kept milking it... and milking it... and milking it... you get my drift 😉

I was a huge charmed fan long before I'd even herd of Buffy, i think its what ultimately got me interested in supernetural based TV shows, so in a way i have charmed to thank for leading me to Buffy. Charmed was my world but then when Buffy and Angel came along my opinion of the show changed drastically. Not so much in seasons 1-3 because they were my favourites, which is mainly cuz im a huge Prue fan but later on the seasons. Charmed had its moments of excellent acting from the cast and brilliant episodes. How can i put it.... for me its like. The best episode of charmed will never be as good as the worst episode of Buffy ive seen. Its really not fair for me to compare them or any other show with Buffy because im just so biased lol.

If Buffy is Beef Wellington with a bottle of Mouton Rothschild, then Charmed is a hot dog with a can of Bud. Sometimes you really don't want the Beef Wellington, you want a hot dog. (so says the vegetarian).

Nothing should be compared to Buffy. It is like comparing a band to the Beatles. If Charmed is good, then it's good. It's on my list of shows to watch, especially after hearing about Alyssa Milano and her wardrobe. 😛

I have so much love for Charmed, but nothing on my love for Buffy/Angel. Piper would be my favourite, and prefered when Paige was introduced as the 1st 3 seasons focused to much round Prue!!!

Have you seen Charmed and do you like it?
I have; I started watching it before I began watching Buffy. Here's the thing; I like it a lot, but on a different level than Buffy. I will say, however, that Charmed's first season > Buffy's first season. Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs in particular were fantastic. I also really enjoyed Rose McGowan, though I never really did like Alyssa Milano. It did lose a LOT of quality after the fourth season, however.

If you don't like it, why?
I said that I liked it, but I can definitely see why some don't. It's really a hit-or-miss type of show... sometimes it goes really dark/frightening, and other times it's really light and... fluffy. And you can tell, too; the writing is almost always better in the former case.

Would you compare it to Buffy/Angel?
I can only think of two comparisons: both shows feature strong wom(a/e)n as leads, and both deal with the supernatural. Also, Chris is similar to Angel's Connor, albeit less annoying. 😉

Do you think it's fair to compare it to the Buffyverse?
Not really, as Charmed wasn't a). a teen drama like Buffy was b). on the same sophistication level as Buffy or Angel were.

Still a really fun show, however. 🙂

Have you seen Charmed and do you like it?

I've seen every ep, and while I like it, I don't think it's anything to rave about. I find Charmed to be a very easy show to watch. What I mean by that is that you can just tune in, watch an ep from any season and completely know what's going on. It doesn't require a lot of concentration to watch. I find myself watch it when I really want something mind-numbing and simple to watch. Lol, it's my reality TV.

If you do like it, why?

I DO like the show, but I would never think of going out and buying the boxsets, it's not something I would consider must see TV. I liked the later seasons more than the first, I didn't like Prue, she always bugged me. I was more of a Paige fan, although Piper was my favorite.

Season 8 I think was when it all went down hill. The show would have been much better ending on S7, when the sisters were free to go off and lead normal, unassuming lives. Why they felt the need to bring it back after that, and to end on that God-awful ep is beyond me.

Would you compare it to Buffy/Angel?

No, absolutely not. Buffy and Angel were, and still are, a higher level of show. The story lines and characters were more intricate and three-dimensional compared to Charmed.

One thing that always bugged me about Charmed was their lack of attention to canon. More than once in Charmed something happened and then something else happened to contradict it. Like, at the end of S5 when Chris arrived from the future. He wasn't originally intended to be Piper and Leo's son, but then HMC got pregnant and they had to change the storyline, which meant that Chris originally split his parents up by sending Leo to Valhalla, and then had to race to get them back together on time otherwise he would never have been conceived.

Another instance is shown during the 1960's, when Leo lived at the manor with a young Grams and Patty, yet, in the future, both had to be introduced to him as they had no idea who he was.

Things like that just bothered me.


Do you think it's fair to compare it to the Buffyverse?

No, I don't think it's fair. The shows were completely different, their mythology was different, and there's nothing to really compare at all.

Although, I did like the little shout out to Buffy in S2, lol.

It's ironic that those two ideas are often paired together. Buffy is the teen drama, Charmed is the grown up drama. Buffy is sophisticated, Charmed is silly and simple...

I was thinking about watching Charmed. I remember it being on when I was younger but I never watched it. I watched Buffy because my older sister watched it, but I don't think she was as into Charmed as she was Buffy... Should I watch it?

Ive seen every episode of Charmed like 10 or more times. Completely in LOVE with it.

I think someone would have to be insane not to love Charmed.

I love Charmed because its a one of a kind show. Yes it has to do with magic and the supernatural which I love. But in the end it comes down to family and friends. Plus the girls are SEXY!

No I would not compare it to Buffy/Angel. I might get shot saying this but Charmed is WAY better! Charmed is and will always be my favorite show. =D

No because there completely different shows and Charmed will no offense blow those shows out of the water. Lmao.

P.S I do Love Buffy and Angel. My exact order is Charmed, Angel and then Buffy.

I would definitely take the hot dog and can of bud anytime over Beef Wellington with a bottle of Mouton Rothschild.
