At least in my opinion...

Last week, at a comic convention the cover art for the first 4 issues of the Charmed Season 9 comic books were released. Not too long after, the descriptions for the first 4 episodes/comics were released.

They closely resemble Buffy.

I'll put it in spoilers, just incase.

Apparently, in season 9, some big bad is killing off all the innocents the Charmed Ones ever saved. So, they have to find a way to keep them safe and decide to start moving all the innocents into the manor.

Bloody hell, at like 22 episodes per season with 8 seasons thats like 1600 innocents, lol, their house was big but whoa!

It is close to the Buffy story, but it is also far enough that it does come across as different.

22x8= 176 ;)
Eh, it doesn't necessarily sound like it's ripping off Buffy. Not to say Charmed always had the best quality writing or that they didn't rip off things before, but it doesn't seem like a complete copy.

Everything on Btvs was original (nothing in it was ever inspired by something else) and Joss's version of vampires are how vampires should be so every vampire story ever written, especially afterwards, with vampires with different traits are just lousy in comparision. Sure the story has similarties with season 7 but it don't bother me much. I think it was Kristine that pointed out other similarities between Btvs and Charmed in the tv-seres so it wouldn't be something new. If I want orginality I can always watch Star wars.

Yes, obviously not much in the text above should be taken seriously.

Thats the most ridiculous storyline Charmed has ever pulled out. Even if its now in comic book form, its just a rubbish storyline. You can't move all the innocents in to the Charmed manor. It won't work. As for it ripping off Buffy I don't see any similarities. This is coming from a show that's writing quality didn't even match that of Joss's writing on Buffy.

People, there's not that many innocents.
22x8=176 episodes. 176 is a lot, yes, but it's not the final number.
Let's consider
a) not in every episode an innocent was saved. In fact, there were often storylines that dealt only with the Charmed Ones, not an innocent. Or the whole Cole storyline. So it's already considerably less than 176
b) They weren't able to save every single innocent, so deduct a few again
c) It's been up to 8 years since they started saving, so statistically, some of the saved innocents are already dead by other causes (natural death, diseases, crime)
d) By the time they notice what's going on, I'm assuming the ranks of innocents ill also have cleared considerably

So it's really not that ridiculous...

I defiantly do agree with you. But also note in that some eppiseods that saved several innocents at once so that does add in a few. But the number is still way less then was mentioned before. :)
I liked Charmed up until season 8 then i think it went downhill, i do not think that Charmed should continue another season with comics as the last season that they had televised was quite the failure.

I think Buffy and Angel are the only television shows that should continue in comic form due to their success both in televised format as well as in print. The storyline doesn't bother me too much but it would be better if the creaters of Charmed pulled a few more original ideas out of their hats.

It will be interesting to see how Charmed takes as a comic book, it may work in favour of them now I think on it a little more. Although I'm not a big fan on those art work pieces made for the comic. What would make it work a lot and I think win fans approval is if Prue shows up in some form. Thats the one thing Charmed fans (like me) never got when it ended on TV.

I hate Shannen Douraty but I loved Prue (sort of) I did always feel that we should have seen prue again. she is part of the family. Grams(YAYY!!!) and mom are always around
Let's ask the real question :

WHY WHY WHY WHYYYYYYY CONTINUE CHARMED ????

I'm sure there are many, many people who think the same about BtVS. I'm not a fan of Charmed of myself, never really watched it but I know it has as many dedicated fans as BtvS/AtS so if there's fans who want it, they should get it 🙂

As for copying storylines? Everyone copies everyone. There's rarely anything new when it comes to these things.

All this tells me is that even in comic book form, the writing for "CHARMED" sucks. Mind you, I'm not that thrilled by Season 8 "BUFFY".

The only show that plays in hell is Charmed, and it's on there 24/7. ~Joss Whedon

If you were gonna rip off a season of Buffy, why would you rip off Season 7? The mind boggles, it really does.

VALA: *stands following* How about this one? We were in a cloaked cargo ship on a simple, three-hour reconnaissance mission, when—

MARTIN: *stops turning to her* Gilligan's island, right?

VALA: You got that from "three-hour reconnaissance mission"?

MARTIN: Piece of advice…if you're going to rip something off, think of something a little more obscure. [SG-1]

So, Charmed seems to be doing a copy of what Joss did? Well, if you have to take ideas from anyone, pick the best.
And as for moving all their 'innocents' into their house... .... ... no problem. Just make a big hole in the floor of the basement and 'let' their 'innocents' visit the nexus.

I don't think I've watched a single episode of Charmed in my life. I've seen snippets. Felt very annoyed. I was only 10. I figure that's probably a bad thing if your show annoys a 10-year-old...

Hahaha
I'm really sick of everyone bashing Charmed. Yes, it was lesser in quality than Buffy. Maybe a lot of plotlines were similar, but how many storylines can two genre shows with female leads do differently? Really?

Charmed started to suck after season 4. It all went downhill. The writing became sub par, the producer reduced the budget so the demons began to look look bland and eventual they all looked exactly the same, just humans who wore tacky tribal clothes and wrist bands. Don't get me started on ignoring there own prophecies and mythologies by Piper having two BOYS and the lame plot that surrounded them. By all accounts, Julian had the right idea when he bailed on Charmed mid season in year 5. I can't believe they'd continue with the story in comic form when they wrapped everything up in the final episode. There can't be any surprises, we've seen how everything turns out. Of course being Charmed, they'll just forgot you know all that and change things for the sake of making more money.

I liked Charmed a lot until season 5. It never drew me in as much as the Buffy verse but it had it's strong points. As for being a copy of Buffy, I think they used Buffy's popularity to make a similar style of show, pretty cast, monster of the week, strong female leads and it worked. Good for them.
Nothing's truly original anyway and if that's stealing then I think Joss owes Xena some money. 😀
I lost interest in the show when Cole was introduced, suddenly Phoebe was dull and she was always my fave.I watched the show till the end but just for resolution really. The idea of using powers for personal gain seemed to go out the window and they seemed to be using their powers for basic household duties!? Also I never liked the evolution of their powers either. I could just about handle Piper going from freezing time to blowing stuff up, but Phoebe went from premonition to levitation. Huh? And also the use of spells just became lazy, any kind of rhyme seemed to get the job done.
There's a lot of good in the show too and I think it will work well as a comic, can't be worse that Buffy season 8 anyway. *avoids knives*
