I tried to watch it, I really did. I was watching the reruns on Living but it just left me lacking. I'm not really into the supernaturally kind of shows, I love Buffy cuz of the stories it tells, I could care less about the demons. Charmed is very much a demon of the week kinda show, it didn't really have much depth so I got bored and then I saw the leprechaun episode and I got pissed, it was basically stuff as many cultural clichés into 40 minutes and see what happens!...Haven't watched it since

Awww...I can honestly say I love Charmed!! You would have to watch it from the start to actually understand the things that are going on. There are alot of demon of the week things but its always a bigger arc. The mini ones lead up to it. I really got into charmed because I loved when Willow used magic and i was like wow. A show using magic all the time! lol But its very good. ANd different cause three women are the leads and most people would be like ugh. lol...

I have to say that Charmed was my obsession after Buffy. I need to reword that...Charmed was another obsession of mine, as is Buffy. I watched Charmed until the end and I'll always love that show. Yes, it was not a very deep show but it was a pretty good one. It's just one of those things that you get to know enough about it and you can't leave it be...

While Buffy was on the air, I never watched the show. I didn't care for it.
Two years ago, as a sisterly bonding act, I watched a couple episode with my sister, who loves the show. She had just gotten season one as a Christmas present. We decided then to get season two and watch it. By then, I just had to know what had happened the rest of the seasons, and so I have now seen every episode. It's not a show that has great writing, and after a while, it's all the same themes and arcs, but it's entertainment, and I do like the characters.

I did watch Charmed from the beginning, every episode as it aired each week,as I will admit (sheepishly or not) that I am a sci-fi/fantasy fan and the whole sister witches gig appealed to me.
However, where I still think Buffy is one of the most fantastic shows to ever air, actually probably *the* best show haha, Charmed just seems pretty lame. I mean the first season it had this really great concept of three sisters who happened to be witches (not three witches who happened to be sisters) and they incorporated a lot of Wicca concepts and they had their own style Add in the Dan/Piper/Leo story arc in season two and we had a show meant for success. But after Constance M Burge (The creator) left the show at the end of season two, and all story arcs and episode plans were left to Brad Kern, the show started to go down hill at a speedy rate.
And you have to note that a huge majority of storylines seem to be taken directly from Buffy. I mean I know that in fantasy and sci-fi shows that similar storylines are bound to appear, but they are usually told in the show's own way so making them different. But Charmed just seemed to be mimicing Buffy at a lesser quality. A mean Phoebe falling for Cole, a demon with a soul just reeked a little too much of the Buffy/Angel storyline. Towards the middle of season three I began watching a little less avidly.
Then when Paige came here- argh! It just blew the entire original concept and sorry Rose fans, but Rose McGowan, in my opinion, can't act. She looks great and her photoshoots always look fantastic but she cannot act. And then the stories in Charmed became lamer and lamer. I mean they had taken so much from Buffy maybe they should have taken a tip from the quote 'There are two things that I don't believe in. Coincidence. And leprechauns' when they started making *those* atrocious episodes. It fast became a show that I just had on in the background when there was nothing else on.
Season 8 hit a new copying low though as in copying from Buffy. One word: Billie. The girl is blonde and comes in doing the flips and the roundhouse kicks, supernatural kick-assyness before stabbing the demon in the heart with an athame which causes him to burst into flames and essentially turn into ash. Sound familiar? Plus, after that comparison you kinda can't ignore the similaity between the names Billie and Buffy. And then we find out that Billie's sister is the key? Dear god, Mutant Enemy should be sueing at this point.
In conclusion: Charmed, a good premiere season but it quickly lost the plot (and went on to stealing from others, namely Buffy and Angel). Leprechauns, Nymphs, Titans dressed for kids parties and Unicorns made the show seem so lame and cheesy and without credibility (as credible as fantasy shows can achieve). I mean that was their season 5 and when you compare it To season 5 of Buffy...well, you can see where the quality lies. Charmed had a lot of potential, too bad it didn't follow through.

But thats why is magic based. Thus bringing in there intakes on the gods and godesses and nyphs and leprechauns. I love Rose and I think she is and awesome actor. She really makes the show better. And might i add saved them from goin off. You also gotta think that they didnt plan to bring in another sister from the beginning. But with what was going on between them and Shannen they had to think of a way to keep the show running so they went out on a limb.. But if you ask me the later seasons are better. It shows more of there personal life than magical which i like.
Pheoebe and Cole were good but the arc lasted too long/ ANd i dont think they copied Buffy on that. Cole was born half human which means he already had a soul. He just kearned how to feel more with it when he was under cover while working with the Tri-Ad.
Billie was awesome, ((even though she cant act somtimes, lol)), i like the feel of her around. It was like she was there child and they were the parents. LOL I dont think they were trying to copy Buffys name or compare. She only was able to fight so well because she used her telekinesis to advance ger skills. If thats the case then Pheobe is copying Buffy as well????? Phoebe can kick butt too. And that means Doyle is copying Phoebe because she has premonitions as well???((i dnt think so but im wondering if you did))
As for the Key thing. They werent saying Christie was the Key. The said she was the key to the ultimate power. Which means she had something to do with them. Not opening portals. Just a witch workin with the bad guys.
ANd you really cant compare seasons like that. The shows are based on two different themes.
Charmed: Witches. Magic. Magical powers. Mythology
Buffy: Slayer. The Chosen ONe

No, I totally get they have completely different themes. That Charmed is magic based and that's what appealed to me, but even when not compared to Buffy, I find that they did lose the plot. Season One and Two was magic based and the sisterhood was very central and important to every episode which was great but through the years they sorta lost all of that. (And I got very fed up of Phoebe's constant whining of 'I want a kid, I want a kid'. If you're meant to have one Phoebe, it'll happen!)
But throwing leprechauns and nymphs into the mix? Even Rose said how stupid she thought those ones were. (Her boyfriend was on set on the nymph one and she said in an interview that she was terribly embarrassed in front of him)
And ah, you thought Kaley (Billie) couldn't act? See, I thought she could. It was just the lines she was given were very...erm...not. good. haha. But Rose, she just seems so wooden and always speaks in that strange way with an extremely odd use of prosdics.
And no, I don't believe the premonition concept is copied by either side because each time it was done entirely different. Phoebe's were an inherited power, handed down through the generations since Melinda Warren, whereas Cordy and Doyle got theirs directly from the PTB. Plus, Phoebe could to some extent control when she had visions, they didn't cause her pain and they were prompted by touching items. But that was the point I also made before; that while fantasy shows can't help but share some similar concepts, they should go about it their own individual way, which e premonitions all shows in this case did.
But I can't retract my opinion on the Phoebe/Cole and Buffy/Angel comparison. I mean that was the reason Connie left. It was said in an interview that when they were planning stories for season 3 Brad stated how he wished to have a demon with a soul so he had humanity in him would come to san francisco and fall for one of the sisters. His soul would create conflict for the two of them to ever be together. Constance said no, that they already had a sister in a love triangle (Piper) and that the sisterhood would become less important if they added Cole, and she didn't feel the idea was entirely original or fit in with the show. The other writers were unconvinced however and sided with Brad, which was why Burge quit.
And I don't know...the Christy being the Key thing. I know the key idea was different but the line 'Your sister is the key' just struck too familiar a chord with me there.
Oh and about the comparison between the season fives I didn't mean to compare the direct storylines I meant to compare the point of development in the series. Season 5 for most long running series is a turning point, a place where they are able to show the audience how far the show has come and how great it still is. By season five of Buffy we had reached a place where the characters had grown so much and we had learnt so much about them that a much serious tone was taken with loss and change and betrayal etc, but in Charmed it seemed what should have been their major development season turned out to be pretty bad as though they were running a little low on ideas. There were a few good ones admittedly, but for the majority...it left me kinda cold.
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree as I will more than likely continue to argue that Chatmed is mediocre and you will argue it's good qualities. So, erm yeah, agree to disagree. ;-)

Do I enjoy watching it? Yes. Do I know why? No.
I used to talk about it all the time, and I adored it. However, once I started rewatching the episodes, I realized (to me) most of the episodes were only good for one viewing. I couldn't watch them over again without getting seriously bored. Certain episodes however I can (All hell breaks loose, Just Harried, Cennential Charmed, The Day the Magic Died, Chrissed Crossed...and for some reason I adored Witchstock)
I hated everything in season 7 (with the exception of the one with Cole and Cheaper by the Coven), and I especially hated the finale. Just didn't float my boat...plus, since when can they astral project? I was never a huge fan of Prue (not that I don't like her...just seemed like she always saved the day), but c'mon. That was Prue's power. Why bother even count it as a power if all of them can do it? Sheesh.
What made me wanna watch season 8? Not sure, but I did. And two things kept me watching: Henry and Billie. Those two saved the show for me, and I adored any Paige/Henry scenes that came at me. I'd go on and on about how Henry was the best guy in the Charmedverse, but I'll stop. But seriously, what the hell was up with the sisters this season? Especially Piper and Phoebe (we saw quite a bit of Paige...no complaints here however). They seemed so distant...this show was supposed to be about them as sisters! Sisters who happened to be witches. So, why were there hardly any sisterly scenes?? Also, i was fed up with Phoebe's quest for getting the first guy she found. C'mon Pheebs, you know Cole was the best for ya 😛 If only you treated him right.... *sigh*

I used to watch Charmed reruns every day on TNT because they followed Angel which was what I was really into. I admit I am a huge fan of speculative fiction and I wanted to like Charmed. I found it entertaining, if silly, and I've probably seen at least 50 episodes of it. However, I'm not a fan, and now I probably wouldn't watch it. I like the basic concept, and I like the characters OK, but the writing is pretty bland, the show has nothing in it to hook me, the acting is downright bad sometimes, the dialogue cringeworthy, and the demons were even sillier than the ones on Buffy.
Had Charmed been done differently, if it was a little darker with a better cast and better writers it could have been a lot better. But something about the show just seemed...shallow.

When it was on I was a huge HUGE fan. I loved it, never missed and episode. But after it ended I could care less. I've seen nearly every episode 4 times on reruns on tnt years ago but I just don't, idk, 'Want to' watch it again. I don't know why, lol I just don't ^_^

I have seen a few seasons, season 4, 5 and 6. Alot of 7, a few of 8 and then a few in between. It never really held my attention. I did promise my bff that I would give it a shot from the very beginning.
What I find about Charmed is it's for entertainment only.
There are always going to be people who connect with Charmed like alot of us connect with Buffy. So we can't actually say one is better than the other because well, who says. Ok I say but it's not fact, just opinion. So, I dunno. I find it hard to say anything good about it but don't want to say anything bad about Charmed either because, offending people is not something I want to do.
After I watch it all I will come back to this thread and give an honest opinion.

I never missed a single episode of Charmed (thanx to the numerous reruns), but, anyway, my heart belongs to Buffy - as I find it more amusing and decent, closer to me as a viewer.
Also, it must have dealt smth with me being in my late teens when I was introduced to Buffy the series - while characters in Charmed quite older and mature, just recently I'm catching up with them in age matters. Maybe now I could find more things to relate to, than I did back then.
If show contains vampires, magic and supernatural - I'd watch it. Especialy, if they run it right after I return home from work and have my dinner. 🙂

I wanted to elaborate on the point I made before Charmed is a great show-it is humourous at times sad at times it is about life and family with a bit of magic thrown in.There are certain things in Buffy that I have seen on Charmed and I am screaming at the characters as I am watching them on Buffy.Here is a question for the fans of BUffy if Buffy had Dawn from season 1 and they were both slayers would you watch?

Honestly, I love Charmed! I own all of the seasons on DVD and I would say that I love Charmed and Buffy, but Buffy a bit more because of the Vamps! I just like the basic story a bit more. But I really do love Charmed a lot and I am glad to see that others do too because I was kind of embarrassed to like both.

Charmed and the Whedonverse were my obsessions growing up. I began watching Buffy and Charmed around the same time [Buffy the summer before Season 3, and Charmed since the first episode]. I watched the pilot, but didn't see it again until episode 4 and 5 and then not again until episode 9 and then I watched season 1 religiously. The WB then went onto its own network, and I didn't get it for half of season 2, so I only watched a few episodes then, and didn't religiously start watching it again until midway through the 3rd season. When season 4 came about, I was back to watching it weekly. I loved the 4th season [though I obviously missed Shannon Doherty and Prue], because I liked the serialness of it and Cole being evil again. I didn't love the 5th as much as it kinda went cheesy, but I loved Piper's pregnancy. Season 6 restored faith in me, and I didn't miss an episode of the 7th season. Season 8 was my favorite since Shannon left the show. But I didn't understand why so many people hated it so much. Billie was an awesome character to bring to the show, however I didn't love Christie so much. I loved the finale and how it tied the last 8 years together.
I don't understand how people think that Charmed has "ripped Buffy off". Supernatural-type shows are always going to have similar characteristics. However, the biggest difference between the two shows is that about halfway through the run, Charmed went to more fairy-tale/greek mythology type demons and magic while Buffy had a new and unique demon every week. Now, Charmed had it's share of various demons, but they were more humanly characteristic than Buffy's.
Charmed was a completely different show than Buffy was. They can't be compared.

Well it could have worked. With season 7 Dawn. It just depends how it all goes down, how it gets written. The writers were brilliant for Buffy so it 'could' have worked. The whole thing with Buffy is, it's supposed to be the chosen 'one' not chosen two. Even tho we got Faith and Kendra it still centered around Buffy.
