I have removed the chat program temporarily to try and see if that is what is causing the slow boards. We will either bring this one back or a new one depending.


Something I would like to do is run the board in an unhacked version for a few days and see how the board speed is.
 
Could it also be the reaosn for sometimes clicking on a link to here, then nothing happens. When you do get on all the new posts are gone as well.
 
That is the problem we're talking about. The board has not actually been down (the server has not been down) it's just that it's taking so long to load and sometimes never makes it. So what you're talking about Ash is that it got there enough to consider you having visited the site, so your cookies got reset as if you had visited the boards. I don't think this is a server issue, so I'd like to try and rule out the hacks as the cause.

I don't know if it could be spellcheck. I'm trying to figure out exactly when the problem started. If I had to guess I would say it's the chat, the store, or the pets, as those are sort of the major additions we have. But it could just be the sheer number of hacks we have installed here, altogether slowing things down.

Well a friend in the know (lol) just suggested removing the Spellcheck, so I will probably disable it for the moment as well.

If it is the spell check, I'm gonna have to do the "na na na". Sorry, I try to be mature, but I can't.

And how funny is it that I just tried to press the spell check button to spell check a response to how the spell check may be the cause of the slowness. Didn't work though so I'm guessing that you've disabled it already.

Be prepared for bad spelling.

When I first came this afternoon, it wouldn't load at all. I went to other sites and came back 2-3 hours later and it took three times longer to load than every site I went to earlier.

I have also noticed twice that when I come here that Quicktime was loaded as a startup item but the program wasn't actually started. I noticed this because my spyware program which I have set to guard against adding new programs to the startup list popped up.
 
The Quicktime thing is not related to the boards.

There's no question as to the fact that they are slow, it's whether they are better now than they were before.

We're trying to see what has made the boards get much slower since December. 🙂

Well, when I think about it, it does work a lot better than a few days ago. Sometimes I couldn't even load the index page no matter how much I tried... For hours.. heh. But, I'm not sure when it changed...
 
Well we'll probably need to give it a day or so at least to really see if there's a difference. It's that not loading at all thing that seems to be a more recent thing.
 
It was happening to me even before the spell check was added. So I don't think it was that. They do seem to be faster now though.
