So yesterday I was on Chat with this username (forget), but when I went to sign off, I didn't know how so I kind of just exited. Now I can't get back on with that username because it's "already in use" or something. Do I just need to entirely come up with a different name or is there a way to kick that one off?

Tried it and all

Just try it a another time cause I got the error message and then went back in and worked just fine.

If it still isn't working clear out the history, cookies and ect. and try again.

Now I am on the same problem as you now ._.

I got

Closing Link: Konoe[server.nowhere-else.org] (User has been banned from wtsirc (Session limit exceeded))

So I guess if you get this you get banned? LAWL!

Yeah, I believe that if you're inactive for a length of time the system boots you off... I think!

Have the two of you tried clearing your cookies/restarting your computer to see if that solved the problem? I don't see either of you logged into the room, so you should be able to get back in once your cookies are cleared

I don't think so Angelic! I'm idled quite often in the chat and I never got booted or *banned*. I was actually there when this happened(three of them getting booted out) and from what Ricks said, the server assumed they were all the same person because they were using the ''nowhere-else.org'' link. I think it's just a bug. Probably need to be fixed, tho. 😛

Meanwhile, you guys only have to get on the chat via another client. Try Mibbit! That's what I use.

Okay I'll try mibbit this time.

But, new question now. How do I clear cookies?

Also what can you get banned for?

Cause I got banned for having a "too long name" which seems mundane.

So are there any other small mundane things that you can get banned for?

It may not be the same type of 'banned'. In general, you can be banned from the chat (by a staff member) for breaking any of the rules that apply to the main boards.

That doesn't sound like it's the same problem you are having. It sounds like a rather technical error that I for one can't fix. When someone who does have a bit more know-how comes online, I'm sure they will have a look at the problem so for now lets just keep this thread about the original error to prevent confusion.

A while ago, I tried to log into the chat and it said I was banned. I tried to log in a few hours later and it worked. Try again?

Another thing Darla had suggested to me was that I try another chat client thing... I was using mibbit and I should try another chat thing... Maybe you could do that?

I don't know if our problems are the same.. but that's what happened to me

i actually tried signing in again today and it worked perfectly fine. it was weird
3 things I need to address;

1. We have a spamfilter which aim to prevent spammers/flooders/clonebots connecting to our server. I made this in an effort so that flooders/spammers won't know how to walk around bans. 😉 Well, I will try my best and see what I can do for you. To be honest, the more resource IRC servers have to expend routing flood traffic (at several times the volume per user of regular traffic) over the network, the less resource is available to allow legitimate users to converse.

2. If you attempt to impersonate someone from the BB's team/member or deliberating registering a retired username/ active but unregistered username and posing as that person is against the rules. I considered this as attempting to stealing a nickname.

3. Be aware that the network keeps logs identifying all logins to a nickname, as well as any password or e-mail address changes. If someone has stolen your nickname, you should contact a staff member immediately. If you delay for too long, the information needed to restore the correct ownership will be lost.

The chat rules do not cover all possible things that can happen in an active IRC chat. Generally speaking, if you avoid being disruptive to other user's chat experiences, and if you are polite to the younger and less experienced chatters, you will avoid any chance of being removed. A little thinking before typing goes a long way. 😉

Thank you everyone! I definitely understand a lot more about using the chat now, that I didn't know or understand before.

That's strange that you just needed to log in again, but I'm glad that it worked for you 🙂

And by cookies we just mean the files that get saved on your computer so it remembers "who you are" when you visit a site. Sometimes if you're having login troubles, it can be because you need to clear them out (I believe with Internet Explorer there's a way to do it through your Internet options menu). But if your problem is solved, I wouldn't worry about it
