Come on! EVERYBODY needs some cheese in their dreams, and along with the cheese they need the man that holds the cheese, it lightnes things up. Imagine if those kids in the Freddy Kruger movies had the cheese man, they wouldve been a lot more happier...before they died..

Whichever way you turn it, I still don't believe he was completly meaningless.

"Of course, the Cheese Man. Uh, again, the Cheese Man: meaningless. Why? Because I needed something in the show that just doesn't make any sense all. In this case, it was the Cheese Man. He confounds everybody because of that and people ascribing meaning. This to me means we're being successful, um, because this means they're not worried about everything else, which means they sort of did understand most things."

he was just there because Joss felt like having him there. Kind of a random, "Hey lets stick some dude with cheese in their dreams!" Really just for the pointless fun of it.

I need clarification

Hi everyone. I was watching the episode 'Restless', the fourth season finale recently. I have seen it a million times, but I've never figiured out the significants of the 'cheese guy'. For those of you who know who I'm talking about, can you help me out? What does he signify?

There is no reason to the cheese man. This same topic is being discussed in Buffy S4, I think that is where you meant to post it but you did not realise at the time.

For everyone who really wants clarification:
