I was talking to my buddy today about some of our silly beliefs we had as a child.. Like, I always thought that if I would eat dog food I would turn into a dog and that when it was raining, the Angels were crying. I had even crazier ones, like if I stayed awake past midnight zombies would come for me (they'd know I was awake). Lol. Mind you I lived right across from a cemetery, it was pretty scary!

What were some of your insanely crazy (lol) childhood beliefs?

i never really believed anything like that, i mean when my mum told me about the tooth fairy i didnt believe she was real so when my tooth fell out i didnt tell anyone for days and then when i told my mum it had fallen out thats when i got money, so i had proved that she wasnt real lol. I mean my mum had said stuff like rain was god crying and thunder was god playing bowling but i never actually believed her lol. oh well, looking back now i kinda wish that i had some childhood stories that i could have believed in.

I believed that burglars were slimey, greenish monsters. I don't know how I got that idea, but one day my Dad was talking about burglars, I think I was about 3, and that image just kinda stuck with me for some years.
And now something funny. When I was about twice that age, so 6, I thought it was impossible to be homosexual. Seriously. I thought it was phsyically impossible or something to fall in love with someone from the same gender.

Lol, so what was the story when you found out that it was possible? :lmao:

I thought my friend's older brother was a vampire who wanted to suck my blood. I don't remember why I thought this, but I was quite frightened of him.

I was afraid of my own Grandpa who had an artificial leg - in my way too vivid imagination he appeared to be a pirate or even old wizard (like warlock) and that was very intimidating.

thats cool
I used to think there demons under my bed, and that shadows in my room at night were demons pretending to be shadows and that if I let even one of my fingers fall off of the edge of the bed as I slept, they'd be able to come and get me and drag me away and well erm....you know, kill me. Yes, I was a morbidly imaginative child.

Then I had the pleasant beliefs such as I was utterly convinced that this section on a wall in our house (where a door had once been but was now filled in) was the gateway to another world involved mermaids and faeries and other such perdy things.

Oh and thunder was God taking out the trash! Haha.

I used to think that we were all toys and (God or someone) would wind us up and set us down to go on our merry way and position us in different places. Then at night we would have run out of wind up (we had a turning thing in your backs) and wed go to sleep until the morning when he'd wind us all up again. And that when it rained God was sad because the game had gone wrong and when it was sunny he was happy!.

aww that's cute!
I remember believing I could fly. Like when I was in bed, if I just let go, I could float into the air. I talked about this with my sister many years later, and it turned out she used to do the same thing, actually leaving the room and going out into the world. I think she actually still believes that this is something you can do as a child but later forget - Peter Pan-like. Me, I'm the scientific sceptic, so I think I was probably dreaming....

Some thing I used to believe...:lol2:

- That if you ate the seeds from fruit it would start growing in your belly.

- At night I would imagine the TV would blow up and set the house on fire.

- I was kinda scared of Santa Claus, the idea of someone being in your house while you slept? Creepy business.

i STILL think about the tv blowing up... and seeing dead people in reflective surfaces
I believed all kinds of wacked stuff. I believed that the faries were always with me, because I had pictures and statues and stuff of them all over, so I talked to them a lot. I believed in invisible people. I pretty much belived in everything, I was rather freaky. I also used to think that if you looked in the mirror at midnight then loads of ghosts would come and kill you. I was overly supersticious, it wasn't good.

Well mirrors are just freaky. I don't trust them.
Never, ever switch on or off the lights between midnight and 1 AM or ghosts will come for you. If they're on, keep them burning... if they're off, wait with going to the toilet till it's 1 AM, or if you really have to go, go in the dark.

i had to do that frantic leap to the bed from turning off the light, and couldnt stick my feet out the bed or something would get me...
Oh my gosh, I just remembered another really weird belief I used to have. I used to have a bunny and I was really really scared of it. I only kept it 'cause it was the last thing my Grandad gave to me before he died. But, I used to believe that if I didn't look after it properly and talk to it then it would attack me. Ackk, that thing was evil.

I don't really remember having whacked out beliefs. I remember looking at pictures of my parents wedding (the random few that exist) or at pictures of my parents with just my older sister and asking them where I was. They told me the same thing that every Irish child is told at some stage in their lives...I was in Holy God's pocket lol and I completely believed them :lmao:

- That if you ate the seeds from fruit it would start growing in your belly.

I used to believe that too.

I also used to believe that thunder was God moving his furniture, and that rain was him going toilet which is why I never used to like going out in it.

remember, it's "peace on Earth", not "pees on Earth"... LOL
My favorite childhood belief is that "The trees made the wind". Very real to a child, when you think about it... every time the wind blew, the trees moved. So in my child's mind, I thought the trees would start "moving" therefore making "wind". 🙂

Ahhhh, to be that innocent again.

Yeah I used to believe that too! lol
When I was six I watched Titanic and since then I thought there are cadavers under my bed like on the water in the movie because of that I was always scared of going to sleep

I believed that a robber ONLY could look like this :

I also believed that the Toothfairy was evil! I don't know why, but I always feared loosing my teeth. Because then the Toothfairy would take my teeth, I would never get them back, and I would live the rest of my life eating out of a straw
