I remember in general being overactive and hyperactive. My imagination was huge... I used to see people that were not there, i imagined things when driving in the car (for example, i once was driving along and the world fell apart around me, the only thing left was the road which we were travelling on)... In general i was a rather strange child.
I spent most of my time alone, often i read or drew or created small stories. I lived mostly in my imagination.
Although i can't say i had a bad childhood, it wasn't perfect, but then what is. It has led the way for me now because without being like that as a child and harnessing my imagination, i wouldn't be able to do what i do now and i don't think i would be half as creative as i am now either (which is pretty important to me).
Where as most kids played football with their dads, i was inside reading stories, travelling to new worlds and meeting new characters. My dad left when i was one year old and i never saw him again... maybe this has something to do with the way i was, but my mum and the rest of the family loved me so much and helped me as much as they could. I guess it was the same as it is now... i felt i didnt need help. Some people go out and do the things teens are supposed to do, whereas i would rather be like i am, and enjoy my own company or come on something like this.
I remember being clumsy as a kid. One time i pretended to be in Starlight Express, and rollerbladed down some wardrobe doors i had in the back garden... falling and landing on a hinge that was poking out, i was almost paralysed. Its funny looking back, i have always been that kind of kid... never feared things like that. Another time i climbed a huge tree, because i thought i was Merry or Pippin and i was climbling Treebeard. I fell and broke my arm.
I was never academic... simply creative. Thats how people always described me. Either that or just too hyperactive. I never sat still. Ha ha, its funny...
Anyway... I'm not writing an autobiography, so i suppose that will be that.
Sorry to ramble on. I love talking about my childhood, not because it was brilliant or anything, but because for all the people that think i am sad and that my childhood was crap, there are a few who can relate to it, and it makes me have a sense of understanding... Partly of myself, because discussing it feels nice, but partly the world and the people around me.
However you see it, please don't judge.
John
