Chosen Final Battle

Besides the cannon fodder slayers, I don't think the Chosen battle was the right moment for anyone important to die. It was all about empowerment, beating the odds, etc. Losing someone important along the way would have been counter productive of the big picture.

I think the reason Anya was killed off was because there was nothing left for her character. She had already come into being human, and although she and Xander had so much love for each other they weren't in love anymore. Had the show continued for an 8th season on tv (which it almost did), I think Anya would have faded out anyway.

And I think Wood survived because it would have been stereotypical if the only black main character was the only one to die...lmao

Are you sure you're not confusing "Buffy" with "Angel," when Joss and the others didn't know about the cancellation until almost the last minute? As well as I can recall, Joss had planned to end "Buffy" exactly when and how it actually happened, except for maybe Spike's supposed death and transfer over to "Angel." That, supposedly, was a condition for "Angel" going into a 5th Season.

I vividly remember back when it all close to ending that there were still talks going on between cast members (i remember emma and nick the most) and the future of the show. the two of them and allison had said they would do another season, but sarah said no...there's a video somewhere that i've seen about her and joss coming to a mutual agreement that it was over and without sarah there was no show. i'll look for some sort of source.

Well, I do remember Sarah said she was done with BtVS after season 7, and the part you mentioned about how Joss decided that without her it was done, too. But I didn't know the others had agreed to do another season... Anyway, what would they have done? I doubt the next season would have played the way the comics did.
