This is inspired by my status update as Taake didn't understand what we were talking about. It made me wonder if this was done in other countries.

Every year we have the Christmas adverts but now it seems to be a big deal between supermarkets and the like to have the best one. I'm pleased to see this year that the majority of them seem to be supporting charities. Usually they make me tear up (looking at you John Lewis).

So I thought we could share some from past and present that you love.

The first current one that I love is by Sainsburys for Mog based on a set of children's books. Mog is my kind of cat. FYI the old lady in the advert with the little girl is actually the author.

However for me it isn't Christmas until the Irn Bru advert comes on

Aw, I loved The Mog one, that one was lovely.

And omg, lol! There's some serious love for Irn Bru, no? That cracked me up. "he nicked my Irn Bru and let go of my hand".... Haha, love it. Kind of The opposite nessage in that one, 😉

I don't feel like we have any adverts of this kind but I might have to look into it, There is an old Coca Cola add I love, that feels like Christmas, but they dont air it anymore (not the one from when I was younger)

I'm a sucker for the John Lewis Christmas ones- last year and the year before they just made me choke up. One about a Snowman who goes to find a present for a snowlady and another about a bear that always missed Christmas so...his little rabbit friend...*choke*...who feels sad for him...he *sniff* wakes him up with a present *sniff* and there's a Christmas tree in the forest with all the little forest animals gathered round. *so cute*

They cut the part at the end where the hungry bear, woken up from his hibernation- then devours all the little woodland creatures for a slap-up Christmas meal. 😛

I'd have to go for the Sainsbury's ad., even though I hate Sainsbury's.
That irn bru ad ruined the song, plus the kid has completely lost the Xmas spirit by not sharing his drink, now if he had been one of the three kings and refused to share his Irn Bru with some the little kid in the hay - I'd go for him then.

I've not seen any of the John Lewis Christmas adverts! Or Sainsburys. So I won't stop now.

I remember from being a kid though, the nearer it got to christ mass, the more and more ads for toys and games and dolls would appear, and my sister and I would ask for more and more every day, and my mum would start to look more and more nervous.

Maybe it's just because I don't watch TV so I don't see adverts, but I'm not sure if we have those around here. I love the use of the Nightwish song in the first one.

Sorry, but who feeds their cat eggs? 😀
Alot of people do. As long as you strain the white off, they love raw egg yolk. Sadly, poor Mog's owners gave her a hardboiled egg thus it lost so much of its nutrition.

I was the same and later thought if Mum and Dad needed money they could just 'go to the bank'. I wasn't being a brat I genuinely didn't know.

What I like about these ads now is that they are not about presents but the Christmas spirit.

Apparently cats like eggs, I didn't know that. But you should never give your cat raw eggs. One of the proteins stops the absorbtion of biotin which affects their coat and it also gives them the runs. I know this not from google but from a life of having cats.

I only thought it was the whites.. I never had a problem before.
John Lewis wins the title for me this year, but it ain't Christmas until those Coca Cola Trucks drive through 😉

This has been my ad since I was a kid - never gets old.

that's the coke add I loved back when they aired it!
Am I the only one that doesn't buy into the Coke ads?

Yes.

😛

It's not that I like the Coke ads, it's just that this ad has been around for, what? 20 years? My mother used to use it as a way for us to gauge Christmas. 'It's not Christmas until you see the Coke Trucks'. I used to love laughing at my brother and sister, tiny compared me at the time, lol, manically running to the TV every time an ad break came on. It's all nostalgia.

See I think for us it was the Irn Bru ads, the coke ads got shown here growing up but mostly the Irn Bru one.

I liked the John Lewis one till Alan Carr ruined it for me. An old man, telescope...young girl....yeah!

In reply #7 Buffy Summers asked the question who feeds their cat eggs?
Give the cat a Sparrow flavoured scotch egg they love 'em. And the cat might even change into a big dog type as it 'wolfs' down the egg.

Yes.

Buying into coke ads is almost like buying into water ads😉 I guess that ad just started a trend which is why it is seen as such a big sign that Holiday season is here. I like that Christmas ads are more aristic now and not just some cheap comedy, but I also can't buy into them as big cultural moments.

This has to be one of the most touching ads I've seen thus far
