Christmas & Halloween!

Well,once again, both times of the year are not far off!

Anyone got much planned for either event? Or want to discuss what you are buying others for christmas/looking for ideas?

I've started my Christmas shopping, and worked out nearly who is getting what. It's my daughters birthday on the 20th and her party on the 23rd so its a very busy time of year for me.

I love the atmosphere, the lights, presents and love to give presents and see peoples faces when they open them 😀
 
Well in my case Halloween will be more of a school holiday since I'm starting the semester next week (did I say how much I hated that stupid student strike??). But I will definitely dress up for school and/or work!

As for Christmas I don't think I'll be buying anything for my dad, since I never know what to buy. I'll probably buy my mom the Star Wars Blu-Ray collection if we haven't bought it by then. And I have no freaking idea what to buy for my bestie.... Last year was easy, he likes Spanish so I bought him some exercise books to learn it. But I really don't know what to buy him this year......
 
I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing for Halloween. I might be going to see Paranormal Activity 4 with a few friends.

But for Christmas, I'm planning on getting my best friend Ellen Denegeres' new book, and I'm also contemplating over if I should get her more seasons of Buffy (she has 1 & 2), or the complete series of Dawson's Creek (I let her borrow mine over the summer and she fell in love with it like I did 😛 ). Anyway I'm not sure. Buffy seems like the obvious choice since it's amazing, but DC has sort of become a huge thing we constantly talk about in our relationship. Plus, I think buying the complete series of DC for only $45 sounds better than getting only 2 seasons of Buffy for the same price. 😛
 
These are both my favourite time of year 😀 I absolutely love giving people presents and seeing them open them up 🙂 I will probably be working over Christmas though and hopefully having New Years off. As for Halloween I want to go on a canal barge through the nether ton tunnel which is about a mile or so long whilst you get told ghost stories and stuff. It's supposed to be awesome 🙂 I'd like to see paranormal activity four too.
 
This is like the ultimate holiday thread for me. Both of these are absolute favorites. I always find Halloween really fun (and not just for the party. I always liked helping my parents hand out candy to the little kids. It's fun seeing how happy they get). I moved down to the States for school this year, but in years past we always have a Halloween tradition of watching "Hocus Pocus". I just love that movie.

I'll be flying home for Christmas (my Mom has already been bugging me about it). We always make a really big deal out of it. We're not even religious or anything, but it's kind of become the centerpiece of the year for us, and me and my sisters all moved away for school, I know my parents will be really excited for it. We always have all of us, my brother and his wife over and watch "It's a wonderful life" (and I love that movie too).
 
Halloween always comes right after my oldest's birthday, so we don't go overboard celebrating; we do that for her actual birthday. We do normally tend to get together for a Family Movie Night to watch "Hocus Pocus", though. 🙂

Christmas is my favorite holiday, and we do it big. We have a huge family meal and opening presents is a big deal for the kids now...
 
I forgot to say I absolutely love fall. I was walking home this afternoon after work and seeing the trees all orange and green and yellow and red was beautiful. And there was just enough wind to spread the smell of fallen leaves. Loved it.

I won't go see any horror movies for Halloween though (I'm too much of a coward).

for halloween I'm gonna be buffy!!!!! I'm SUPER psyched!!!!! got the pants, the boots.... that's it but - for me - that is like AMAZING forward thinking preparedness!!!!

Excited for both. I'm going to a Halloween party, this year I decided to go as Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. I was Lois Lane à  la Smallville last year. I wanted to do a Jean Grey/Phoenix costume this year but put it off for too long and don't have enough time left to make one. Then, it kind of landed on Katniss. I'm going with the arena set up from the movie. I've got everything but the pants.

As for Xmas... I just can't. I've already started shopping, I am so friggin excited. No more talk of Xmas for me though, or I will go crazy. I've got to get through Halloween, Thanksgivings, and Black Friday still.
 
Beside for work (if children are involved it's impossible to leave it out) I'm skipping Halloween all together. Even if it gets more popular year Halloween still hasn't made a mayor breakthrough here. Give it two or three decades when todays kids got children of their own and it'll probably be a different story. I've dressed up exacly once for Halloween (yes it was for a sleep over at work) and I went as the Scream killer. It'll be nice to see the occasional carved pumkin but that's about it for me.

Christmas will be even more quiet this year, at most my parents and siblings meeting. Usually aunts, uncles and their family comes too but not this year. All my grandparents are dead. I don't mind keeping it small. Give christmas the peace and quiet it deserves.

As for presents we don't give those anymore. Instead we collect money (how much each want to spare) and we donate to charity. Everyone nominate their charity and when we have a draw to see who gets the money.
 
What the hell has happened to the year?!! It's just flown by!

My brain hasn't fully processed that Halloween and Christmas are nearly among us.

I don't know what I'm doing for Halloween yet though I hope to do something, though I like to be in so I can open the door to the trick or treaters, it's fun now I'm older to see all the little kids dressed up having fun, last year I had a 2 year old dressed as a little devil lol and a zombie and a witch who were adorable!! At my door, I was like willow in All the way when she sees the little girl dressed as a witch.

As for Christmas, man I haven't even begun!!!! But I have a few ideas about what presents I'll be buying for people. I love buying presents more then I love receiving them, I love seeing the look on people's faces when they open them. 🙂

Seems like everyone is excited! The year has gone by very fast, doesn't seem like even a week since we were just having christmas lol.

I've done quite a good job at saving up here and there through the year, i have about £1000 for Christmas which i HOPE is enough lol. It wants to be lol.

Not really sure what's happening at Halloween. We don't really do anything apart from watch the odd movie, Halloween,The Thing etc.
 
I usually love Halloween and Christmas but it will be a tough year celebrating my first round of holidays without my boyfriend around.

Halloween I'm going to a friends house party which should be fun. I love an excuse to dress up! This year I'm going as Marla Singer from Fight Club. Bought myself a black wig (I'm blonde), the name tag, and the big hat. Gives me an excellent excuse to chain smoke the night away!

I have no plans for Christmas yet, I still need to speak to my family and find out what we're doing! Maybe I'll just have a quiet one this year. Last year I didn't enjoy Christmas at all so hopefully this year will be better.

I love that idea for a costume. Fight Club is one of my favorite movies.
Halloween largely depends on how I'm feeling on the day- I do have a couple of pumpkin tealight holders which I sometimes bring out, and I do have a couple of suitable DVDs I can put us on if the mood takes me. Modern horror films don't interest me because I find them too extreme, but I have a couple of black and white ones.

Christmas is hard work though- I tend to have a couple of busy weeks beforehand with some fundraising activities, and it's difficult to get time off from work so with Christmas falling midweek, I'll be getting on a train on Christmas Eve, two days with my mum and dad and then back on an early train on the 27th to be back at work. Unfortunately I don't always enjoy it- there's nothing that makes you feel quite so conscious of being on your own at 40 as spending every Christmas with your parents.
 
We're in the middle of moving so we're not going big on the decorations yet. I think next year we will finally buy our first house. I love both holidays. While I'm a horror-nut and have always loved Halloween. I can't help but admit it that Christmas is my favorite. I do plan on going crazy big on both holidays for decorations. If not next year, then over the next few years. I want to have a very spotlight house. I'm hoping when the kids look back at their childhood they remember our house very well.

My wife has suggested that I not go to any Haunted Houses. Although these are my favorite part of Halloween. I do not do very well with loud banging sounds any more since my time in the military. So far, I have respected that wish. But its killing me not to go.

I know when our kids are older we want to scratch all the traveling around for Christmas and just spend it as Disney 🙂

I had Christmasat Disney Land Paris about 9 years ago. Was great,but very cold lol.
Not much really. Was going to go home and spend it with friends but I've got an open day to go to, so it's looking like whatever horror film is on the TV and an essay from my new Joss Whedon book. I am going to a screening of a friend's horror film the day before though.

As for christmas I've no idea. Probably just the usual family thing- spend christmas day at the pub and see my sister awkwardly include her boyfriend in conversation. It'll just be good to be home really.
 
It's a shame that Halloween seems to have lost it's novelty around here (UK in general i suppose for the majority). You see a lot of these movies where Halloween was/is a very big thing for a town etc, and you wonder why it isn't actually like that for the most part. Seems a shame really.

Not so bad at Christmas. I think in recent times though that a lot of people have found it harder with money problems etc and it hasn't really meant as much to them. Having said that, i think you have to really have a very special christmas for you in no way to think in any way that it was just another day.

Sooo Am I the only one that has started to listen to Christmas music??? LOL I know I know but I had to load up the music to the pc for a mate and thought ok why not....a little bit of Buble's album lol.... I so cant wait for the first so I can put up the tree 😀
 
Lol I'm surprised we haven't had any of the music on the radio yet. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of Christmas music on the radio as early as they usually do it. I mean i wouldn't directly change the station just because it's christmas music, but at points last year at work they had it on as early as the end of October! I think it's more when they play the christmas music and then they want phone ins about how excited people are/aren't etc and it just seems never ending.
