Back by popular demand...ok back just cause I wanted to. 😳 My Christmas vacation thread!
Not going to give much of a day by day of my itinerary. Just going to try to give some detail...
Anyhoo... My girlfriend usually takes whatever paid time off in payment, but this year she took her last week off instead.
She took xmas week off work. Then turned out I got 5 days straight off work on xmas week as well (wed-sun).
When I told her she was like "we should go somewhere!" Now we both have talked about our desire to spend an xmas abroad.
Although usually that involves Europe or especially London, but that was out of the question per time & budget.
So after googling airfares, airbnbs & more, we arrived at a destination: Savannah! We both fell in love with place when we went last year.
We also talked it over with our families. Once we got their OKs, we booked our flight for Tuesday evening after I got off work.
Our flight was delayed a few times and so we didn't get in until Wed. morning around 2:30am! Having already been here, we didn't really have any set plans
We mostly just roamed around various parts of the historic downtown areas. Christmas Eve is almost like Christmas day at least in area we stayed in.
Most things were closed. Thankfully more places were open closer to the river. We were hoping to get xmas dinner at one of those fancy hotel restaurants.
However turns out they're really pricey! Think cheapest was like $75 a plate. Didn't want to blow most of our food money on one meal!
Sadly by time we found that out, was already too late to order in/take out from other nice restaurants that were open day before.
So we ended up buying few meals for xmas lunch and dinner (Marie Callenders & Stoffers) at nearby Krogers.
Spent like $15 on them too boot! Maybe $25 with snacks & sweets! Bargain! We did take 2 long walks during Xmas day & after dark (to see the lites).
We walked thru the Christmas Market on river street. We also toured the Mercer Williams House made famous from film Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil
We also did one of those haunted walking tours on our last evening in Savannah. The guide was a hoot! We didn't tell any friends or people from work we were going.
When we texted them Merry Christmas from Sunny Savannah they were pretty surprised! That was fun. 😀
The fancy large house made into apartments where we stayed.
More bit later...
