I thought I would be a nice idea if we shared what we've bought/will buy/thinking of buying our friends and family for christmas. Or maybe not buy, maybe you have a talent and are going to make something instead? In either case, share!

If someone needs help with ideas for a present for someone maybe we could help that person out too, all in the christmas spirit. 🙂

I just finished a lot of my christmas shopping today, so here it goes, my presents (are you noticing a theme? LOL):

To my littlesister - Buffy season 1
To my littlebrother - Angel season 1
To my dad - American dad season 1
To my husband - The office complete box set and Black books complete box set
To my sister in law: Tre kronor season 1 (a very popular swedish soap opera from the 90's that has just been released on dvd)

The only one I have left buying to is my mum. I'm not sure what to get her. She likes painting so I might get her some supplies. Anyone has any tips there?

I just bought my best friends gift today! She LOVES to draw so I got her a sketchbook! I still have to get her some drawing pencils!

I also just got my grandma a Snuggie today. lol. She LOVES it. My mom and I gave it to her early cause she likes to kill us with the heater! hahaha

My mom said not to get her something. But I will. I'm just ot sure yet. I think I'm going to make her a Tee that says worlds best mom! 😀
 
The little kids are getting pillow pals, the oldest got in-game credits for a game we play as a family, and hubby's getting a quilted shirt and a food basket.

I have a list to give my friend for when she takes the kids shopping for me. What I really want is a good digital camera, but I'll have to wait for tax returns for that.
 
My parents are impossible to buy for. I actually don't enjoy Christmas because I find it so stressful and worrying trying to think of something to get for them...

They're those kind of people where they have the money to buy what they want, and if they haven't bought it it probably means they don't want it... Sucks.

I might just give them vouchers or something boring.
 
I don't have a lot of money so my presents this year are going to be rather creative.

I already bought my friends several versions of Apples to Apples and extensions. We broke in the classic Apples to Apples yesterday. I know, we opened our presents before Christmas... but they know what they are... and we had fun.

For one of my sisters, I'm making her a meal... a good home cooked several course meal.

Not too sure about the other sister or my parent...
 
For my mom, a gold cross necklace with her birthstone in the middle, for my friend Emily, a pair of fuzzy penguin PJ bottoms, for my twin, fleece Beatles PJ bottoms (we're obsessed), and I got an idea for my brother. I'm gonna have a stand alone picture made of my favorite picture of him and his fiancee.

And for my person, we're gonna try to get a new ps3 together, as a present to each other.
 
I love giving Christmas gifts! I have so much fun finding gifts for friends and family that they will enjoy and use.

I haven't finished my shopping yet but it did get one gift that I'm excited to give.

For my best friend Maddie I got a "Green Thumb" Basil kit. We have been roomies for the past 4 years and about once a year she decides to try and grow a basil plant so we have fresh basil to cook with....and every time she tries the basil is dried up and dead within 1 week. We always laugh about how she totally doesn't have a green thumb and this "green thumb" basil kit comes with a funny/joke idiots guide to keeping a basil plant alive. I'm sure it will make her laugh and now we have a funny idiots guide to having a green thumb book to add to our coffee table books.

I'm with you. I don't enjoy Christmas either because I hate Christmas shopping. I hate the crowds, lines...its just too stressful. And usually we get a very hot Christmas too. My sister is really impossible to buy for as well as my 7 year old niece because she has a lot of stuff already.

The saving grace is that we have extended shopping hours early this year, so I'll get all mine within the next week or so.

I totally understand that. I stopped stressing about it a long time ago. But while we still bought each other gifts I more or less hated it. If I came up with something good, then great but not like that happened all the time. Which ended in me becoming lazy and either buy something with my sisters (and make them think of something no matter who it was for) or something boring and maybe not very well thought out.

Which in the end lead me to say "We're all adults, we got what we need and even if it's fun giving and getting gifts (if you find/get something good) but what about make christmas be about family and instead collect money (less than we'd normally spend on gifts) and give to charity instead?" And they actually agreed, even if not everyone was 100% happy, so that's what we've been doing for a couple of years.

We still give to nephews, nieces and grand children up until they get 18 years old. Which mean that I this year only have one gift to give. To my 9 year old niece. And honestly. If I don't find anything today (the only day I'll walk around the shops) I'll send my sister some money and she'll buy something. But this year I haven't even got her wish list so I'm blaming it on that. She already got more toys than she can use and she'll get even more this year (having a birthday party tomorrow and then christmas). Just adding to the pile feel pretty pointless to be honest. I suck...

There's this tiny chance that I'll buy this girl something. All depending on if something happen between us. Which I really higly doubt. But in case that actually happen I still buy two gifts at most. And I'm not sorry about that for one second.
 
I bought lots of cheap jewellry from ebay a couple of years ago, and still have some over for next year's Christmas. It was sold from Asian and very cheap, I could get decent jewelry for just a few bucks. I'm guessing it's the same stuff sold at outdoor markets and festivals, but since the middle man is cut out, it's cheaper.

I also did a very cheap thing a few years ago. I spent about a couple of bucks per person by buying two books for a poor kid in Africa or planted a tree in a forrest through giving to charity. Two books sounds better than two bucks, right? However, it's not always appreciated. I got away with it since I didn't have a job and was younger.
 
This year, etsy.com and the Norwegian equivalent Epla seems to be saving me. I've found lovely, unique, handmade and inexpensive toys for most of my kids' cousins there. As for the adults, we largely opt for edible gifts.
 
I'm really stuck on what to get people this year. We don't give presents amongst my group of friends - just cards and then a meal out together - so there's nothing to think of there. It's just family that's the problem.

My dad is so difficult to buy for. I usually end up getting a CD or DVD but that's so boring. For my mum... I think I'll get perfume or jewellery.

My sister Elly - I have no clue. Literally, no clue. My other sister Becky is easier because she's a bit of a geek like me so I can get her some random stuff and know she'll appreciate it. I do love giving people presents, I'm just finding it really difficult to come up with stuff this year!
 
Since my dad always says "Nah, I don't need any new clothes.", and he does, I always buy something like that for him. This year I've found this cute Tom Tailor sweater, so I think I'm gonna buy that for him. It's usually that or some kind of parfume.

My mom is craving for this Guess watch for few months now, so I think I'm gonna get her that. And for my brother, well I usually buy him some toy.. I'll go to the toy store and pick something up 🙂
 
My parents are ridiculous to buy for too. My Dad doesn't do anything and my mom never wants anything. So what's a boy to do? I've gotten gifts that they wouldn't have expected to which they've returned so ... My sister is easy to please so oddly enough I get her a good presents cause I know who she is even though I don't know what she wants specifically.
 
Okay, so I think this year I'm going to do personalised gift baskets for my impossible to buy for parents. A packet of each of their favourite cigarettes, a bottle of wine and a couple of nice boutique beers, my dads favourite salted liquorice... I'm trying to brainstorm some more fun ideas but have kind of run out... Anyone have any ideas?
