Christmas Songs

This is a little early, but whatever.

I'm having trouble recording my demo CD because I'm having a problem getting hold of people who can play music. So, that little project is on hold for right now. Christmas is coming up soon and one thing I can do is make a cheesy Christmas album. Sometime in the near future Darren, Stephanie and I are going to go to the recording studio I'm already working with and record a 4 track *cough*crap*cough* Christmas album just for fun. It's going to have one solo song from each of us and then one group song.

We need to deside which songs we're gunna sing and I don't really know any because I'm not all here right now because I have pnemonia again. :😛ulls out lungs.:: i dont need these, right?!

So, what are any Christmas songs that you know of?

Do you know any that would fit the following styles of voices?
-Broadway sounding
-Punk rock (Good Charlotte, Maroon 5) sounding
-Pat Benatar sounding

You could "Punk" up a christmas song, a la Simple Plan have done with a few songs.

There was a kinda punk Christmas song once, a long time ago in a galaxy far... 'twas called "A merry jingle" by The Greedies - who were some of the Sex Pistols plus Thin Lizzy.
But it's official - punk is dead. These American wannabes are really just *scathingly* pshaw! "power pop" - what on earth do skateboards have to do with it? Having said that I always had a soft spot for the Dickies "punk" versions of stuff like the Banana Splits theme...

Personally, if I was going to record a Christmas song I'd try something to a Ska/Reggae stylee...Lively up your Yuletide inna JA way...

What would classify all these new bands (Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, AFI, Maroon 5) as and what would you consider 'real' punk.

What would classify all these new bands (Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, AFI, Maroon 5) as and what would you consider 'real' punk.

OK - just before I go to bed - "real" punk would be (IMO) music from about 1976 to 1979 and would include The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Clash, Jam, early XTC and the wonderful (but often unlistenable) Patti Smith and similar bands. Personally, I would make a case for "new wave" acts such as Talking Heads, Blondie, Elvis Costello, Television, (and from a bit later) Billy Bragg and the folk-punk stuff like Faldor's beloved Levellers and the Pogues. The grunge bands of the 90's were a child of real punk but many of the bands today labelled as punk (Green Day, Blink-thingy-number) I would consider to be pop with a skate-punk edge - not that there's anything wrong with that per se...I'm a bit too tired to give this much more than a cursory thought, sorry.

Edit - I forgot to include The Stranglers and The Buzzcocks in my list of real punks above - tiredness getting the better of me🙂

BTW I don't claim to know more about music than anyone else and have never claimed that my taste in music is any better than anyone else's.

the thing people don't undersand about Punk is it is not a genre of music. it was a way of life. a counter culture that existed in the late 70s the music was just a part of it. while there are some post punk bands that way of thinking is dead and the current american "punks" just don't get it.

while people like green day might be considered "rebelling" by some conservitives they will never do anything compared to the Sex Pistols "god save the queen" nor would their record company ever let them be so badly behaved.

and lately punk has been such a fashon thing... and it's so sad to see! real punk bands stand totaly in the shadow of "punk bands" Give me the ramones!!!! 😉 :jumping31
