Since it is the season :santa2: and I will use any excuse not to study for my exam tomorrow, I'm wondering what everyones' favourite festive song. Please refrain from any and all Cliff Richard offerings!

Mine is Fairytale of New York by the Pogues and Kirsty Mac Coll. There is just something magical about it.

Its got such an upbeat feel to it but is actually really dark in tone...brilliant
I really love this film, which is a remake, Love Affair. It's a remake to An Affair To Remember. Anyways there is a christmas song sung by Ray Charles The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire). I like this song but mostly his version. Something so calming in the way he sings it. Sample Here

And I like Santa baby - Jane Krakowski's version and Baby it's cold outside the version with Zooey Deschanel.

Santa Baby is cool
"I'll be Home for Christmas" by Frank Sinatra. An oldie, but a goody.

YouTube - I'll be home for christmas - Frank Sinatra

I also like "Do you See what I See?" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Also, even though it's a New Year's song, I really like "Auld Lang Syne."

Of course, my favorite song each year is whatever they use for the General Hospital Christmas montage. I love those things. Why oh why did Buffy not give us holiday montages?

my all time favorite Christmas song is 'Merry Little Christmas'

YouTube - Judy Garland Sings Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Judy Garland was one of the most beautiful women, and her voice was just stunning. listening to her sing this song always brings tears to my eyes.

and even though we were banned from mentioning him, i have to add 'Mistletoe and Wine'

YouTube - Mistletoe and Wine by Cliff Richard

we used to sing this in school, and it's the only song that my entire family know the words to. it brings back really good memories of me and my friends singing this around the school Christmas tree.

I am a big fan of the Micheal Buble christmas cd which includes let it snow. and I also like Josh Groban from time to time I just love their voices. (P.S. for anyone living in the US did your Christmas music on the radio start REALLY early because a few of my stations started playing Christmas music on Halloween at 8pm - I am not joking it was crazy)

:santa2:

"Oh, Holy Night" (anyone other than those who do the pompous styling)
Kim Richardson's "Celtic Christmas" album (all of it)
"The Christmas Song"
"Please Come Home For Christmas" (Charles Brown or The Eagles only, please...)
"All I Want For Christmas Is You" (Vince Vance and the Valiants)
Most of the old standards I like.

I'm a big fan of all the old favorites; White Christmas, Little Drummer Boy, Deck the Halls, Silent Night, Jingle Bells, etc. The oldies will always be what really says, "Christmas" to me.

Favorite Christmas song... gosh that's tough.
If I had to pick I think it would be either:

All I Get For Christmas Is Blue
Little Town
White Horse

From the album Snow Angels by the best band in my whole world, Over the Rhine.

They've got the whole album streaming through a live player on their homepage. For those of you who like the oldtime sound Xmas music, try song #11, Snowed In With You. G'head, give a listen... it's reeaaaallly good... 🙂

I'm surprised I haven't pimped them till now, really. Their singer is goddessly divine.

In my solemn moments this time of year, I prefer the classics like "O Holy Night," and "O Little Town Of Bethlehem," and songs of that sort. When I'm feeling more frivolous, there's my mother's favorite, "Santa Baby, " and of course "The Chipmunks' Christmas Song," and we can never forget that ever popular classic: "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer." That one always brings a tear of nostalgia to my eye.

At the minute I'm into the classics. White Christmas, The Christmas Song, Have yourself a Merry little Christmas and funnily enough Oiche Chuin (Silent night in Irish, apologies for the spelling they wouldn't let me put in the fada's). Anybody listen to Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan? If you do, do you know the hidden track on 'O'? It's silent night but with a twist, even though it's utterly depressing I'm listening to that alot, the way she sings it is magic.

Little Drummer Boy - Jessica & Ashley Simpson
MY Only Wish (This Year) - Britney Spears
Silver Bells - Martina McBride
A Different Kind Of Christmas - LeAnn Rimes
Santa On the Rooftop - Trisha Yearwood

And I violently dislike 'The Christmas Song'!

I love Fairytale in New York by the Pogues ft Kirsty - my opinion its the greatest Christmas song ever.
I also really love Stop the Cavalry by Jona Lewie, Greg Lakes I believe in Father Christmas, The Little Drummer Boy by Bing and Bowie and A Spaceman came Travelling by Chris De Burgh.

Ok instant Karma for having the sense in saying Faiytale of New York is the best...it so clearly is!

I personally think its one of the best songs ever, never mind Christmas songs. It has the magic elements but like you said its really dark and I love that!
