Christmas!!!!!

Oh, I love Christmas.:biggrin: I try to buy my presents before the last week but I never get round to it. I love figuring out what I'll get each person but the shopping, aaaghh!. I hate it so much, too many people pushing around all squashed into the same shops. But once I have it done, I love Christmas time. In the past I've usually been working too much to appreciate it but not this year. This year I have Christmas and New Year off.🙂 Might do something for Hogmany since I actually have the time off, yay!

On the actual day I have to get up early anyways to go visit my gran. Everyone from my mum's side of the family arrives there and we all exchange gifts. But before that, in the morning, we will already have given presents to each other - my mum, dad and sister. And my mum will start cooking the dinner. Usually roast ham. Yummy.🙂

Anyways, how can you not love Christmas? For me, it's a day of eating chocolate for breakfast, getting lots of presents, giving lots of presents, having a huge dinner and a few drinks too.😉

And then more of the same for me on the 28th cos it's my birthday.:biggrin: So all in all it's a busy week for me, hehe.
 
AH! Christmas! How I love thee!

I can't wait. I've been singing Christmas carols for... awhile now. I forced myself to wait for most of it until after Halloween, buuut, I tend to listen to some all year round. 😉 Oh yeah, I'm a Christmas fan. 😀

The best part is that my advent starts on November 15th. So I've promised myself not to start decorating until then. And then... ohhh yes. I think I really must do cranberry strings this year. And get some sort of mistletoe (I don't even know if they have cranberries OR mistletoe in LA). I really want a Christmas tree, but when I was in Dallas, they were like $50 for a tiny shoddy little tree. One that you'd spend like $5 for in Maine. 😛 (clearly I'm spoiled by living in the Pine Tree State)

Plus... there's St. Nicholas Day on Dec. 6 and that means putting shoes out and getting chocolate coins and clementines. Except it's usually for children and I'm not quite that anymore so I haven't figured out if it's still "kosher" to do it. I think I will anyway. ^_^

And yes... Christmas music, decorating, and BAKING. Must have all sorts of Christmas cookies... Also have to learn how to cook tamales for Christmas dinner.

Must find my Nutcracker cd (I did ballet for years and Nutcracker rehearsals started around late September, sooo... it's definitely part of the holidays, never got tired of it either). Also have to make DH a stocking... he never had one...

*ahem* Yes. I love Christmas. I can't wait to decorate and bake and music and ahhhhhhhhhhh. 😀

P.S. Unrelated, but, the Trek dudes are adorable. Although the non-alphabeticalness of the smilies drives my OCD completely nuts.

I don't get into the Christmas mood, until Thanksgiving. That's when I get all happy. 😀 This year is going to be different, because I can actually buy gifts for my family.
 
i just realized i lost all of my xmas music when my hardrive konked itself earlier in the year... GAH!!!!!!!!!! *crying*
 
I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!

But I married the Grinch so it doesn't end well, usually, no matter how hard I try. He's coming around to it gradually, but having spent last christmas with his family I can see why he has been put off of it. It just wasn't fun. Christmas day you should be able to spend all day in jimjams with your pants on your head if you want - it's like a bonus day.

However, my second husband and I have a blast doing the christmas shopping. We are a perfect match! So we go armed with a list of people to buy for to a beautiful little expensive 'village' in Bristol called Clifton, and we do lunch, commando raid the boutiques and have a great time, successfully completing the task in around 4 hours including lunch. One evening trip to the big shopping mall (last year we were in M&S at 10.45pm drinking champagne) and we are all done. Course, Harvey Nichols has opened here now, so we may have to have a 3 day event. I think my bank balance may suffer.

This year I am going to France to visit my Dad with our children. It could go either way, in terms of success. My traditional curry feast will have to wait until next year, but at least someone else does the cooking.
 
ive never been allowed to help put it up as my mom is a control freak... then amy came along and is a bossy little madam so she wont take no off our mom and helps (takes over)..... i provide the music... oh remote queen am i!
 
I have bought nearly al of my presents and wrapped them all lol, but im not getting excited yet.......maybe when i gets me a tree i will get more in teh mood for it! =D

when you gonna be putting it up? remember i always have to restrain my family from putting it up till its december... tho we saw a tree up on halloween.... that was odd
 
loveee christmas i get all excited and happy every year despite my progressing age, only thing i hate is my familys delay in putting the tree up, they want it up mid december i want it the first day oh and the crowds and the war like atmosphere in the shops is a pain but hey its traditional hehe

I love Christmas as much now (I'm 22) as i did when I was a kid. I love putting up the decorations and making the house all pretty. I love giving and receiving presents. I love getting to spend time with my family, even if they do drive me crazy sometimes. I love eating my Mum's Christmas dinner. I love wearing the silly paper hats that come out of the crackers I love watching the Queen's speech and the soap opera Christmas specials. I love stuffing myself with so much food i can barely move. I love playing Christmas music at full blast. I love the general feelings of joy and good cheer that come with the season. Christmas is just fantastic. 😀
 
Just out of curiousity. When do you put up your christmas trees? At home I don´t bother putting my up since I´m not home anyway but my parents has always put it up december 23rd. A lot of other decorations is up before that though. Usually starts at december 1st.


In Sweden we got Lucia on december 13th. That my friends is a great tradition. Don´t girls in all countries grow up wishing they one day will have lots of candles in their hair? 😉 To be selected the Lucia is an honour.

Okay. Moving on. December 23rd?!? Wow. That's so late! We generaly do it on the weekend nearest to Dec 1st, and take it down 12 days after Christmas. What's the point if you don't get to enjoy it for aaaaageeeesss?!?

My mother wants to put it up Dec. 24th. :P Needless to say, I would put it up in November if I knew it would still look fresh by the time Christmas rolled around. ;)

Kean, candles and hair are unmixy things...^^that would end in tears.

We usually put our tree up the first week of December. My mother tries to put it off as long as she can but my sisters, my neice and I pester her into submission. We're still children when it comes to Chrsitmas. I think she is trying to put it off until I come home from the States this year "cuz Sinéad is the one who always puts the tree up"...she's trying to say it won't look right. Pfft! Any bloody excuse!
 
I so hated that Lucia tradition when I was a kid.
Forced to be dressed up and sing songs. It was awful.

The night before Lucia could be more fun when you got a bit older though 🙂

Can confirm the Swedish tradition to decorate the tree on decemeber 23rd. Thats how we did it also.
