Christmas

I have nothing saved this year. 🙁

I've been over doing it with that whole buying food thing. After Thanksgiving I'm gonna start eating a lot less and save like $50-$100 a month just from that.

It sucks to feel pressured to conform to consumer Christmas. I am sorry you've been forced to go hungry. It drives so many people into poverty and ill health, but society ignores that in lieu of lights
Always mean to start early, but can procrastinate with the best (er is that the worst) of them. 😳 Thankfully I don't have all that many peeps to buy for. At least I have plenty of $ saved for the gifts. 🦌 🎅 🎄 🎁 🎈 🎀 Yay moi! 🛒 🏃‍♀️

I took these selfies last week. I don't look like I gained 30 lbs but that's more because I was always petite.

I think eating less is good for me (when I actually start!) since I have an addictive personality (thank the gods asthma prevented me from becoming a smoker). I don't even get hungry, get full fast, and just eat because I spend most of my time indoors & give in to cravings.

I'm already in poverty & ill health, might as well splurge.

Have you seen the Iceland advert? People keep going to Aldi to see the Kevin the carrot lorry when it does deliveries.

Has everyone here forgotten the real reason why Christmas is celebrated?

PS: If you know the answer tell me 'cos I don't know.

Yes! It's because of Santa!! Duh! 😉

I only have two people to get presents for so i usually leave it until mid December. Plus im broke. Christmas has never really been my thing anyway tbh i might go see the new grinch but thats about all I'll do.

I like buying things for people, doesn't have to be at Christmas if I see something I think someone would like I tend to get it, so this time I like, however Christmas itself I don't enjoy, too many people, having to go between family members, the stupid games that always come out. Nah I'd rather hide away for the day.

I do that with my niece, she's super spoiled :D
I refuse to acknowledge Christmas exists until it's Första Advent (first of advent) which is the fourth Sunday before Christmas. December 2nd this year. Until then I don't want to hear anything about this Santa business or gift shopping 😛 (After that it's all Christmas music all the time)

I know! The more I started talking the more excited about them I was getting. I kinda want to do it now.
I refuse to acknowledge Christmas exists
Period.

That being said, I have already spent 48 grand on Christmas this year.

No no Taake, what he means is he has spent 48,000 (grand) choccy buttons.
@Taake Gingerbread. I make a gingerbread villages. This year having a working train set to carry the Gingerbreads to and from the village to their homes. I've added a "snow" machine of that wisps of snow are being blown on them as the ride the rails. I've installed LED lighting in the Gingerbread chapel and used colored celotape to serve as stainglass windows. The lights really illuminate it and it looks like real windows.

Yes. A truck.

A truck?! But I haven't finished my art thread yet!!!
I generally wait until Thanksgiving before doing anything Christmas. I did buy one Christmas present, actually before Halloween... because I just happened to see it and grabbed it. I do have a pretty good idea of what I'll be getting people, which is unusual for me.

I'm seeing houses with Christmas lights and even Christmas trees already. I don't think it's ever started this early before. Seems like every year now people are more and more desperate to get to the holidays.

For me, I have to get through my own birthday first, before I can think of Christmas. That gives me 10 days to buy presents, decorate and so before Christmas Eve 🙂

Plenty of time then! :D
I think it's too bad that so many starts with the Christmas thing so early.
Feels like most are sick and tired of it when it's actually time and the day after december 25 they just want to throw all Christmas stuff out.

Personally I prefer to go on as usual until the day before, or so. Then trying to keep that nice comfy Christmas feel all through to New Year instead.

Usually get in the mood after Thanksgiving, but more so round 2nd week of December. 🙂

When I was growing up the norm was for a Christmas tree to be put in a house 12 days before Christmas and for 12 days after. The tree sellers recommended that as the tree would last that long before shedding its greenery. The decorations were put up and taken down the same, then the damned shops wanted their sales to increase. 24 days at Christmas was more than long enough.

It is such a relief to no longer be forced into consumer Christmas. Its an extremely stressful time for me, let alone trying to afford pressies for all of the extended step family. Seriously traumatised from all of the ridiculous rituals and forced family gatherings. Its so lovely to be free from all of that.

Still hopeful I can find work for triple time pay when no one else wants to. But they've even cancelled the fire service this christmas. Santa needs the firetruck to wake town at 8am. I freaked out last year thinking we had a fire cos it was blasting its sirens with santa on the back. This town has been identified as the most vulnerable to being wiped out by natural disaster. These things tend to happen on holidays.

Decorations give me flashbacks to torture, no one respects the right not to celebrate and everyone brings up the topic from october onwards. I've escaped it best I can by moving to the arse end of the world, but its name haunts every corner of the globe.

It is the most terrible time of year.

I've started the dreaded wrapping, I don't like wrapping, but rather do a bit now and then, then leave it and have to do it all at once. I do need to buy a roll of boys birthday wrapping paper, I like to keep rolls of it, so I don't have to buy any throughout the year.

Did I find this on the internet? Or Nix’s closet? @Nix

I tend not to think about Christmas until a couple weeks before, when I'll lamely insist we put up a wee plastic tree. I have really good childhood memories of Christmas with my parents and my sister so that informs a lot.

Though since my birthday is the 28th of December it's always been a non-event. I had a birthday cake once in my life lol. Christmas time can be really depressing with its expectations of enjoyment. I'm less bothered by not having a birthday as I grow older, and now I'm settled down my preferred way of spending Christmas day is cooking up a nice dinner with my partner. Luckily the family is cool and doesn't expect anything from their children other than us being happy.

That's the good thing to travel, not telling folk you are back, 'cept for sister.
