Chucky TV Show

SYFY has placed an order for a Chucky TV show from the character's original creator, Don Mancini, SYFY WIRE has confirmed. He will also serve as writer and executive producer.

"I've long wanted to bring Chucky to television and SYFY is the perfect network for us," said Mancini in an official statement. "The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky's character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now."

Chucky, or more accurately, Charles Lee Ray, offered his own statement:
“In these troubled times, I believe it’s my obligation as a horror icon to reach the widest possible audience, on TV. For over thirty years, I’ve been scaring the sh*t out of you. But now at SYFY, I look forward to really making a difference."

Joining Mancini as EPs are David Kirschner (Hocus Pocus) and Nick Antosca (The Act).
“I worked with Don on Hannibal and on Channel Zero for SYFY, so developing Chucky with UCP really feels like coming home,” said Nick Antosca. “SYFY is the perfect place to tell the next chapter in the Chucky saga and having the original creative team lead the project will help elevate the story we are excited to tell.”

I'm excited, both as a huge Chucky fan, and as someone who loved Channel Zero seasons 1 & 2. I have faith in Syfy!

Maybe it's a Chucky origin show and, like Better Call Saul, you have to wait for years before you actually see Chucky. Maybe it's all about Ray and his learning and mastering the dark arts so that he can become Chucky. I could be down with a season like that actually. Rather than just BOOM! Here's Chucky!

I could do a show where he actually successfully enters the body of a child before ending up back in the doll later on. I still haven't gotten enough of the evil child trope in horror 🙂

And then instead of a Chucky doll, because he is being pursued and has to hurry and jump into whatever is on hand, it's in a Barbie doll! So Barbie is running around killing people.

As someone who really enjoyed the last couple of Chucky films and am invested in the series I am looking forward to this. Could be a nice change of pace moving it to a series format. Going to be strange having this and the reboot film out there at the same time.
