Holy crap.. oh shoot.. I didnt mean that, it just came out punny. Anyway, this is one scary looking church...

Here’s another excuse not to go to church! St. George’s church in the Czech Republic fell into disrepair in the 1960s after the cave fell in during a funeral. Taking that as a bad omen, locals abandoned the 14th-century-old church and held services outside rather than stepping foot inside the church. That is until artist Jakub Hadrava got involved.

Commissioned to make the church more attractive for visitors (and therefore making more money for repairs), Hadrava decided to install statues in the church. Sounds nice, right? Well, take a look at these statues – they’re bound to give you nightmares.

‘The figures represent the ghosts of Sudeten Germans who lived in Lukova before World War Two and who came to pray at this church every Sunday’, says Hadrava. ‘I hope to show the world that this place had a past and it was a normal part of everyday life, but that fate has a huge influence on our lives’.

Fun to look at in pictures but you couldn’t pay me enough money to wander into that church with those creepy statues.

Whoa. This actually looks scary as f***. Imagine going in there and sitting down next to one of these, when, suddenly, it starts slowly turning its head toward you.😱

But I actually do think churches are scary. Whenever I see a statue of Jesus with this sad facial expression and his eyes looking upwards, or statues of these child angels or whatever they are, I have to think of The Exorcist and The Omen and that kind of stuff.

Nothing to be scared of. It's just a load of Willow's dressed up for Halloween. Yep. That's all it is. Not freaking out at all.

Church scares me too. Both from frequenting it with religious family members, to being scarred for life with church heavy scenes in films.

The Exorcist III always springs to mind. Sad Jesus, then there's this horrifying statue of Mary from the original movie. Actually, this whole church scene from Exorcist III is pretty traumatic. The noises, the atmosphere, the statue?!

I'm sure church is lovely though for those who enjoy it!

You've just gotta love churches; they make great props for films, they have great acoustics for music but not much else.
You see I was born a Quaker, when in school I was forced to go to church with the rest of the school.
Neither the schools headmaster or the Vicar of the church liked having some 14 year old kid accusing them of religious persecution. Then being told that no matter what the statues looked like, they were pagan symbols.

Those statues are the least scary thing about church.

So it's just me that wants to make some of those for Halloween then!

I actually really like that. Church should be a place of reflection and rememberance. Memento Mori, eh?
I find the statues poignant and very fitting and I'd love to visit this church! Though maybe not alone at night 😉

It's an abandoned church that people think is cursed and are afraid to go in... those statues don't make it any easier!

Meh! I bet it'll start popping up in lots of late night church-selfies in a not too distant future! 😉
