Right now I am listening to a review of Aliens. It reminds me how much of a character the cat from that and the previous film is. Its a subject on my mind right now having watched the new Paul Verhoeven Elle recently, and again the Cat in that has some important scenes. There is something about Cats more than Dog that makes for great, dramatic cinema. Another recent example was the Cat in the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis. That performance should have been oscar nominated😛

So what are some of your stand out feline involvement in movies?

The cat in Breakfast at Tiffanys is the one that I think of first

Wasn't there a prominent cat in Bell, Book & Candle? Haven't seen it for years, but I vaguely remember a cat

Does it include home movies of your own cat, because that one time I caught the DivaCat licking her bum was truly epic cinema! 😀

Does it also include animated cats, because The Aristocats is second to none, and everybody, everybody, everybody wants to be a cat 😉

If none of the above count, Mr Bigglesworth from Austin Powers was always fun to watch.

Disney cats! Big cats like Raja the tiger from Aladdin, Baghera and Sher-khan from The Jungle Book. Also fat cat Chloe from The Secret Life of Pets. Angus the cat from Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging. Lol.

I recall very little about Enemy of the State that I saw at the cinema, and only one scene is crystal clear in my mind (I'm going to call them by their actor's name rather than character's name because I don't even recall the names from the movie!): Gene Hackman has gotten into his car and locked it, and about to leave Will Smith to his doom when Will Smith shows Gene Hackman that he is holding Gene's cat in his arms...and a furious Gene Hackman concedes defeat and lets him in the car.

(One of the Men in Black movies featured a cat, at least a cat's collar, but the memory of it is very fuzzy to me.)

I vaguely recall seeing a Stephen King movie that was like an anthology. I didn't care for it, save for the cat in it that kept having small cameos until the end when it has a mission to save a little girl from some kind of goblin or tiny troll that wants to steal her breath (would've been a good Sunnydale Before Buffy story, One Cat in All the World, or maybe that little girl grows up to be Buffy 😵 ). I was just able to find it, it was apparently called Cat's Eye. I thought the cat was black for some reason, but I remembered that part wrong (maybe I confused the cat with Salem from Sabrina?)

If you ask me this is the best cat to ever grace the screen

Sally Field! "Cats rule and dogs drool" lol
(One of the Men in Black movies featured a cat, at least a cat's collar, but the memory of it is very fuzzy to me.)
Orion! "The galaxy is on Orion's belt."

The crazy hairless cat from The Secret Life of Pets. One of my favorite quotes is "...and bat you around for hours, in a game, that only I understand". The way Steve Coogan delivers the line I think is great. Lol

When I think of "cinematic cats" I think of cats who are part of a story, by giving insight into a character or furthering a storyline.

Jonesy from Alien and Aliens is the most obvious one (my own cat is called Jonesy!). The other one I think of after that is probably Tjorven from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The cat is obviously in the books too. I liked Fincher's version of the cat with the "cat camera" perspective. Seeing Daniel Craig's character make friends with the cat endears you to him (him shouting "CAAAAAT!" to get the cat to come in is hilarious: see video below), and the poor cat's fate is a great way to signal what's to come and, within the story, it shows that Blomkvist is trying to be scared off the case, or even provoked. The cat became an essential part of the story. Tl;dr: cats are good plot devices.

Cinematic cats... the one thing that pops into my head is this little ditty

And yes, I want to be a cat 😀

Oh and also Hermione's cat from Harry Potter (Crookshanks?), and the little sister's cat from the Hunger Games (which I mostly remember because it was some stir about it being the wrong color in the first movie?)
