Cinematic/T.V. High School How does it compare?

I have always been fascinated by how High school(What we call secondary school in Ireland) is depicted in T.V. and Cinema, Do I was wondering how does this idea of High School compare to your school, In America and Everywhere else? Is it actually as divided as it seems on screen? And which High school from T.V. and Cinema would represent your school best?

On T.V. The high schools always seem to be divided into groups (Jocks, Nerds, Geeks, Cheerleaders, etc.) Over here there is that division but it's absolutely nowhere near as strong, Like the groups mix regularly, Everyone talks to each other, everyone is invited to every party.
Also their is no labels put on people, Like if you call someone who is on the rugby team(Would be the equivalent to the football team) a Jock, they would probably be insulted, cuz they would associate it with being stupid.
Actually that's another thing, Allot of the people that would go in the "cool group" are actually some of the smartest in the year, They also try the hardest and hand up all the homework's on time.

So Irish schools would be very different to the High Schools on T.V.

It's funny though if I had to say which Cinematic High School represents my school best I would say The girls from Mean Girls are a direct copy from my school, Like all the the girls in my year love that movie, and constantly go around saying "We're so like that" to each other, It's hilarious!

Then the closest school I have seen on T.V., weirdly, would be the one from The O.C., Which is why probably almost the entire school watches the program, But It gives the most accurate picture of what my school is like!!

In my old high school, there were divisions but not the same as the ones seen on TV. Since my school was very diverse, a lot of people would hang out with a group that's the same ethnicity as them. Like the black ppl with the black, the puerto ricans with the puerto ricans, the white with the white etc. Even though they hung out with ppl their own color, the groups would mix a lot of the times too. That was one divider. Another was the different cliques. In my school it wasn't cheerleaders, jocks, or whatever. It was more like the gangsters(ppl in actual gangs that would go around bringing weapons to school and beating ppl up for no reason), the preppy ppl, the ghetto ppl, the geeks, and a whole lot of different girls groups. I never liked to discriminate so I talked to almost everybody although I also had the same circle of friends who I hung out with all four years of high school. Kinda like the scoobies in BtVS LOL Other than that, there were no other dividers. Everybody talked to everybody and they all liked each other no matter what clique they were in. Except for the geeks.

The Movie high school I would say most resembled mine is the one in Dangerous Minds. No, it wasn't nearly as tow up and dangerous but the different ethnicities and the way they talk was very similar to my school. The fights too. When there was a fight in my school, it was hard core. A guy once stomped on this girl just because she cut in front of him in the lunchline. I never got into a real fight except for that one when I stabbed this guy who tried to strangle me. Since it was self defense and there were witnesses, I didn't get in troble with the police. After that, nobody ever messed with me.

The TV school that most resembled mine was Sunnydale High in the sense that somebody died there almost every month. It was like the towns very own hellmouth. One time, a student brought a gun to a basketball game and started a shooting spree. Good thing I had other plans that night. Another time, when there was construction being done at the school, a worker fell off the roof and split his head open.

My high school was fairly small. There was one big group of us that were friends outside of school. I guess you could call us "cool", and then there was just a smattering of rejects that went about in groups of two, or sometimes solo.

We weren't an exclusive group, if you didn't sit with us that was your call.

The little division are kind of evident in my school.
The parties aren't really mixers here, I haven't heard of any (I'm not really part of a cliche, more of a loner).

The only mingling might be when kids ask each other for homework help.
Stereotypes like "jock", "nerd", "band geek", etc aren't used often. People like to go with the current fad of "emo" and/or "goth". [I, totally, find it retarded.]

Any cinematic film/TV show that represents my school well?
None that I've seen.


Forgot to mention, I go to an all-boys school so no cheerleaders running around.

First of all I just have to say that I love high school films and TV, mhm.

But yeah, my high school.. nothing like that. It was really small, most of us had half (or more) of our friends at other schools. And even though people are of course different, we all pretty much loved eachother. Especially in twelft grade (last year), my class (of like 20 people) had class parties all the time and did all kinds of stuff together (just with our class), I still miss my high school class, they're all awesome 🙂

we would depict the school from One Tree Hill. There arent really any "cool" people, and if they are, they are the slutty girls/horny guys.

My secondary school was nothing like that. We had to wear grey uniforms, had a very strict code of conduct (no jewellery, hair tied back, no smoking while in school uniform or in school, immediate expulsion if caught fighting) and didn't have any of those cliques. You had the popular ones, the not so popular ones that were still socially acceptable, and the complete outcasts. I was none of them, but friends with most of the outcasts.

Whoa your year only had 20 people in it!! Wow thats so cool, Mine has like 140 in it!
