Pretty decent pilot episode, but the Vamp make-up looked awful. Especially for Russell.

Really like Doyle, he's adorable.

Cordy is still her usual self centered self. :lmao:

Noticed that Josh Holloway(Sawyer/Lost) was one of the vamps that Angel staked in the alley.

Yeah, I'd watched that episode several times before I noticed Sawyer, but then, the first time I saw it I wouldn't have ever seen LOST.

Holloway must have still been modeling back then, looked so clean cut.

the scene when Angel got hit on by that "Agent" was funny.

I love the fact that when Russell's falling out of the window you can quite easily see his reflection in the glass of the building!

I was completely in love with Doyle from the beginning. And Cordelia was great as ever "Are you still... GRRRR?"
Didn't notice that. I have to rewatch it

Too bad about the vamp make up. The commentary (Joss and Greenwalt, I think) makes mention of how they were going for something that was distinct from Buffy, but why when they're in the same universe? I'm glad they ended up going with the regular vamp faces.

yeah i noticed that too about the vamp makeup ,it was like Buffy season 1.
bad bad bad.

lol. Oh and who doesn't love Doyle!?
So sad when he dies.

Lol, I've never noticed the make up thing.

I like this episode. I liked the little crossover. But I like only first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of episode. The woman and the old vamp storyline bored me a little. And I actually rewinded to see Angel kicked his ass out of window for like 10 times.

I loved City Of, a great opener to the series. Boreanaz is leading man material right from the off, Carpenter just runs away with the whole show from the minute she walks into it (the whole "you're a vampire" conversation with Russell is brilliant and classic Cordy) and Glenn Quinn is a legend from the minute he sprouts that pinhead. Oh, and the moment when Angel kicks Russell out that window is freakin' amazing. "Can you fly" indeed.

I just had to put the episode on again now, and I truly agree it was a great season opener. It felt like it picked up where Buffy had left of, but at the same time allowed Angel to become more independent and getting to know Angel a bit better. Also love that Cordy was brought in, and how the chemistry with Angel, Cordy and Doyle evolved 🙂
Never noticed before either that Josh Holloway was one of the vampires in the alley. He looked very different from how he did on LOST.
But one thing I noticed is that the girl playing Tina in the episode came back in season 5 to play Nina (the werewolf)

Oh, yeah.. you're right. They do look a lot alike, I was sure they were the same actress at first...

Tracy Middendorf played Tina in the episode City Of.

Jenny Mollen played the Werewolf chick Nina Ash the 5th season.

She's currently appearing on the Starz series Crash.
