Classic outfits

So I was on some site and they have little sections about TV shows and the classic outfits that are chosen. They had a gallery about Emma from Glee, and the gang from Gossip Girl.

What outfits would you pick to be instrumental to the gang?

Is there a particular outfit that you think the costume department got smack on right? Or an outfit that you just can't stand?

I'm a huge fan of fashion and the part that it plays in determining a character or person, so I find it interesting to see what other people think.

I have very clear views on the characters clothing, so would love to hear your top 5, or top 10 classic outfits. If you can be bothered finding a picture it would be awesome to!

Buffy - Prophecy Girl

Vamp Willow - Dopplegangland

Faith - Enemies (the red & black, but couldn't find a good shot)

Punk Spike - Fool For Love

Glory's little red dress (see my sig)

And I know there are tons more subtle ones... this is really interesting topic... I'll think on it more 🙂

I wonder if anyone here knows anything about colour use in film? I know a little bit, but not enough to read to much into this particular colour scheme. Firstly I wanted to point out a particular outfit that Buffy wears. I may be wrong, I'm open to other opinions, but personally I find this outfit by Buffy to be the first incredibly grown up and chic outfit that Buffy wears. Especially when paired with the obvious immaturity of Willows fuzzy jumper and denim overalls.

Obviously it came at a time when Buffy had an important choice to make regarding her future and I think that it said a lot that she decided to wear something so mature. On a personal level this was my favourite outfit Buffy wore in the early seasons, I actually pretty much duplicated the look numourous times. Bought myself a matching top and a very similar dress in the same hues and loved the look. I used to jump around the house kicking invisible vampires in it!

Interestingly enough this colour theme is used a lot in the Buffy/Faith scenes.

The shade that Buffy starts wearing is so similar to the colour of Faiths standard lipstick that I can't help but think this is no coincidence. Especially since most of her scenes in late Season 3 that aren't regarding Faith/with Faith Buffy goes back to her usual pale colour palate.

Then of course there is the obvious fact that once things really come to a head between the two of them Buffy is wearing that plum shade. Of course this is when Faith tells her she is dressed up in big sis's clothes.

Another interesting use of colour in the Faith story is with the pale pink dress that Faith wears. It's a huge shock to see Faith wearing this shade, but then we swap to a scene of Willow (the epitome of innocence and purity within the Buffyverse) wearing almost the exact same colour.

Hope y'all don't think I'm crazy here!

It's not really a "classic" out-fit but I really liked this one.
I may be a bit biased though as I own the original head!
It's wearable and the eyes even light up!

How could it be usable to the group? Heck...who couldn't use a hulking Demon Robot from time to time?:tongue3:

I definitely don't think you're crazy, Cait. I'm taking a couple of film classes, and the outfits (especially their color) are always discussed when we watch a film. I think that in films, it's definitely more deliberate, but I've always wondered if the same thought is put into television. I'll bet it is, but it's just under-appreciated.

caitaintdead- YUP! I saw it up for sale at a props where-house and couldn't resist. It's just not that often that a season one prop from Buffy becomes available so...I had to have it.

It was after reading the costumers from Glee and Gossip Girl talk about how much thought they put into the outfits that I really started putting together some ideas of the outfits in Buffy.

Oh, for sure! Professional costumers know what they are doing, you're not crazy at all. They work with everyone else behind the scenes to create the dynamics of the sow. Very crucial and so overlooked! Good thoughts on the costuming so far, I'd love to hear more.

My mum taught media studies at uni, so maybe some of her knowledge is rubbing off on me! I'll definitely have a bit of a think about some more costuming choices that were made. There are all the obvious ones of course - every time Buffy gives her life as a sacrifice she is wearing white. Obviously drawing a parallel to the olden days sacrifices.

There are so many cool outfit through all seasons, I can't decide for specific ones, that's quite difficult. I started liking Buffy's outfits more and more around the end of season 4...
Here are three outfits, I really like...

In "Wrecked" ( season 6)....a very classic one...

"DIrty Girls" ( season 7)

I absolutely LOVE the Wrecked outfit on Buffy. She really looks so beautiful in that style of clothing - jeans, jumper and some classy accessories. I've actually tried looking for a similar necklace to the one she's wearing, but with no luck. They all looked cheap and tacky... Maybe it's just a Buffy thing!

Also has anyone else noticed that Sarah looks like she is wearing these exact pants in Scream 2? I always say aren't those the pants from becoming?

I was going to add Angel when he came back in season 3 silly me he wasn't wearing anything ;p

I think all those outfits are instrumental to the gang and some others. Since they bring with them such important moments and effect things. Another example of that would be Tara's outfit when she died.

^agreed. As well as Taras outfit when she is killed I would rate Willows, in particular the white shirt that gets splattered with blood. I find it especially important because it represents the good, which then gets tainted with red, and she then changes into black that represents the darkness.

Also I think it's funny that once Cordelia is no longer Cordelia but Jasmine she wears that hideous black thing. So utterly un-Cordelia and it's especially important as she was always so defined by her clothing.
