I didn't see a thread here so I figured I'd start one. I think Clem's character is great - I wish we had more. My favorite Clem moment was at Buffy's birthday party when Clem, Dawn and Xander, I believe are watching cartoons.

He was funny. I liked how we met him first as one of Spike's 'pals', playing(/cheating at playing) cards for kittens and everything, and then how he later became some sort of comic relief. And it was kind of cute for example how he left town in s7 in his red car, motivating Buffy.

There's not much written about Clem, you know? Here's an excerpt from Televised Morality The Case of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I think it really decribes Clem and his place in the show very well 🙂
"For Whedon, Clem represents the difference between having and not having a soul. Clem is a very sweet, friendly demon with a fondness for kitten poker...Because he is so harmless, Buffy befriends Clem, although she makes it clear that she does not condone the eating of kittens. During one encounter between them, Clem explains to Buffy how bad things are getting Sunnydale: "You can't swing a cat without hitting some kind of demonic activity. Not that I swing cats, or eat - nope. Heh. Cuttin' way back. Choresterol - morals! I means, morals." (Empty Places).
Despite his les-than-convincing insistance, Clems choices in life are not based upon moral reasoning but upon pure pragmatism. For Whedon, this distinciton is essential because the soul on Buffy "has consistantly marked the real difference between somebody with a complex moral structure and someone who may be affiable and even likable, but ultimely eats kittens." Clem represents the consistant concept on Buffy that the lack of a soul hinders the ability to make profound moral judgements."

I love that about Clem. It was always nice when we were reminded on Buffy of the shades of grey. Plus, that Season Seven ep where he's in the bar and terrifies the potentials with his real face was great.

Oh, I love Clem! I agree, he should have been in the show more. He should be brought back in the comics, he really should. I haven't read past #1 yet, so I don't know exactly how he could fit in, but still, it needs him!

My mums favorite character!
Not that my mum actually followed BtVS at all but she'd usually be in the room while I was watching the new episodes and would always go on about how cute and funny he was whenever he came on screen. 🙂

Well, I didn't know that! I read his entry on Wikipedia (which, btw, is only a PARAGRAPH long) and it said the last time he's seen is fleeing Sunnydale in series 7. No comic appearances mentioned. As WP usually mentions comic appearances, I took that to mean there were none for him. Yay, something to look forward to!

I think it's obvious where i stand on the issue - Clem was an amazing character, and i feel lucky to have "landed" him! 🙂
This is an area where i believe that Buffy is unfair to my sweetie. She eats cows and chickens and pigs and turkeys, which is no morally different from eating cats, yet she somehow acts like my bf is immoral for eating cats, while it's perfectly fine for her to go around eating other animals. I think Buffy is great, but she really dropped the ball on that one.
Agreed - that would be great. (Of course, then he'd have less time to spend on his personal life, so maybe i should re-think that...). ;-)

I love Clem, he is so funny. I don't agree with him eating kittens lol but I still love his character.
Oh I love Clem! There should SO be a Clem spin-off... haha maybe not. But I do adore that character, such a sweetie. "I gotta tell ya, i don't think that's a skin condition" hahaha

I'm probably gonna catch hell for this, but I thought Clem was overrated. I mean, he was obviously a sweet "guy", and he had some good moments but for me he felt like someone they added in so they could let all the principals be in the "big scenes". It was like "If we have this person doing this and all these people over here... Oh wait, who's gonna watch Dawn while they're all doing this stuff?"
I really do like Clem, but I don't get the outpouring of love for the character. LOL
