Didn't they (fear mongers) claim the same about the boogey man climate/winter in the 70's ? That back then we were heading toward another ice age? I'm pretty sure it was even a cover story on Time magazine...
vicious sid agrees: global warming thing you said: ABSOLUTELY, i wouldnt put it any better way
I can't help thinking the term "climate change" is this BS term global warmists adapted to when they started noticing the world stopped warming after 1998. There has been no warming since 1998. Carbon Dioxide, the invisible, odorless, benign gas which exists for the most part naturally in the world, and whose presence is necessary for the survival of the life continues to rise, but the warming has stopped for the present at least. Nevertheless those who subscribe to the global warming doctrine continue to insist human released CO2 will destroy the planet.
Speaking of google try this one Great Global Warming Swindle. Watch the video and see the other side of the Al Gore movie.
This is.. inaccurate, to say the least. At one point in 98 the planet was hotter than it has been since, but the average temperature of the planet has continually risen.
Seriously, if you're interested in global warming don't watch the 'great global warming swindle'. Its pretty much filled from start to finish with inaccurate information. Its not so much the other side of al gores movie as the same side of a double headed coin.
Even the head of the IPCC, Rajendra Pauchauri, talks of the temperature plateau after 1998 and says they have to look into it.
I think the problem here is you're basing your idea on old information from alarmist blogs.
But let's look at what the scientists say.
MIT's Dr. Richard Lindzen says there's been no warming since 1997, and no statistical warming since 1995.
Speaking of trends, even alarmists have stopped arguing the lack of warming in the last ten years, and the cooling in the last 6. What they say now is it doesn't matter, because it's a short term trend. The long term trends show overall warming since the beginning of the industrial revolution.
The Great Global Warming Swindle is a shockumentary. However so was An Inconvenient Truth. In fact An Inconvenient Truth was the flim flam which started the indoctrination of global warming ideology on the general public. They swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. The Great Warming Swindle was a reaction to that. There is critique concerning what may, or may not be true in both. Personally, I think the critique on what may or may not be the facts in The Great Global Warming Swindle to be mild compared to the easy revelation of pretty much everything in An Inconvenient Truth, as pseudo-scientific, gobbledy gook.
At one point in 98 the planet was hotter than it has been since, but the average temperature of the planet has continually risen.
Ok. I've noticed the global warming conspiracy theorists(looool) have a very difficult time when it comes to reading graphs, reading them accurately, and understanding the information being presented.
I'm not sure I understand. Do you have a point, or are we just supposed to stand back, and be amazed by what you appear to be hoping is impressive rhetoric. I at least posted links to references. Try some of that. Something like a point might eventually surface.
The original point we were discussing was this one from you...
No, it hasn't. It hasn't by any standards you want to apply it. No, the IPCC has not said global temperatures have risen from 1998 to January through September 2008. Here's your chance to prove me wrong with an actual fact if you have one. Give me a link.
And on this one...
That was in reference to this link.
A note from Richard Lindzen on statistically significant warming Watts Up With That?
What are you talking about man? That's not a graph. It's an article concerning a world-renowned scientist with more staggering credentials than you, or your professor will ever hope to have saying there's been no warming since 97, and no statistical warming since 95. Now disagree with him if you like. By all means show me where his logic is flawed if that's what you believe, but don't tell me the article has something to do with my ability to read a graph, because although there is a graph in it, it's not a graph, it's an article. Geez, at least click the link if you want to critique it man.
When a layman says "I've got a theory about that..." he means he has a guess. He's using the word the way a scientist would use the word conjecture.
Where the problem lies is that when a layman hears a scientist refer to a theory he assumes that it's nothing more than a conjecture.
In actuality, a theory is as close to a fact as is reasonably possible. Nothing is ever 100% certain, but a theory is as close to certain as we can make it. A fact is an observed event in the universe. A theory is a description of how several facts relate to each other, revealing some underlying phenomenon. But both of them have the same degree of reliability and certainty. In that sense, a theory is a fact, or as close to being one as it can reasonably be. For all practical purposes, Theories are True.
To say that something is "just a theory" is to betray complete ignorance about how science uses the word "theory". Theories aren't "just". Theories are extremely strong and very, very well backed up.
Rajendra Pachauri, the head of the U.N. Panel that shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, said he would look into the apparent temperature plateau so far this century.
The World Meteorological Organisation’s secretary-general, Michel Jarraud, told the BBC it was likely that La Nina would continue into the summer.
This would mean global temperatures have not risen since 1998, prompting some to question climate change theory.
Some climate scientists are predicting that surface temperatures will remain static or even fall slightly over the next few years, before warming resumes.
Richard Lindzen received his PhD in applied mathematics in 1964 from Harvard University. A professor of meteorology in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of the National Research Council Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate. He is also a consultant to the Global Modeling and Simulation Group at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, and a Distinguished Visiting Scientist at California Institute of Technology's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Prof. Lindzen is a recipient of the AMS's Meisinger, and Charney Awards, and AGU's Macelwane Medal. He is author or coauthor of over 200 scholarly papers and books.
Schillaci, I could of course go through every line in your post, and address every misdirecting point, return each ad hominem in kind, and of course as you mentioned, pick apart those articles at the environmentalist ezine easy peasy.
I've found that sort of stuff never works though. It simply allows the guy who made the original incorrect statement to misdirect away from responsibility for starting the argument with fallacious information.
So let's get back to that statement where you said global temperatures have risen since 1998. Not even the pro-warming side thinks so.
