Clones in Tv and Cinema : What's your opinion ?

Clones in Buffy and Star Trek : What's your opinion ?

I've just watched the Star Trek movie "Nemesis" where Picard and his crew have to deal with Picard's clone, Shinzon, whose body is decaying at an accelarated rate. (Hello Dolly ?)

The issue of cloning has become a recurrent theme in movies and even Tv series like Buffy, when Xander was cloned or duplicated in "The replacement".

Are clones really equal ? These examples suggest they are diffrent because of personality or background differences. What do you think ?

Can you remember other examples of movies and series where this issue was discussed ?
 
Replikate. ezcept the clone was like starting up a computer with nothing on it. The clone had to be teught everything from scratch and had only the basic instincts. Oh and she turned angry a bunch and had a real bad temper.

Clones have occured in many star trek episodes but I can't get into them right now cause I;m helping Angelsbabez with her banner. brb.

clones are merely a copy of the person they can never have the exact makeup, they would never be able to have the same experiences that the original had and therefor would probably not be the same but if they have the same peronality and emotional strengths and weaknesses then the clone should react the same way to a certain situation as the original. But all this is just a guess who realyl knows for sure.

As for Nemesis I havent seen it in a long time but I found the movie rather hilarious, I know it wasnt meant to be a comedy but there were a lot of funny moments. Shinzon was pretty good, I mean the movie wasnt so you might as well have a good evil character, the slow data was also rather amusing.
 
When thinking about clones, one deffinately has to take the "nature vs. nurture" theory into perspective. I am a big believer in environmental factors, not to say that biological ones don't play a part, they certainly do, but i think that the environmental factors are more a key to ones personality than others.

this sounds like a discussion and subsequent paper I had to write for my Psychology class, nature vs. nurture, a debate that will last as long as what came first the chicken or the egg.
 
well scientificly speaking doc...the egg predates the chicken...by about 70 million years...lol...

i think half of van dammes' movies are about a clone...lol...i still think they're cool...

gotta be both...nature and nurture...to what percentages...varies from person to person...
 
Good call, SoulG. . . . who could forget Cyborg, starring Van Damme as A.D.A.M's Belgian cousin D.I.N.K.U.S.!

Sadly, I think the most unintentionally hilarious cloning movie ever was our hero Joss' atrocious Alien Resurrection. They cloned Ripley from her DNA, and somehow the alien in her chest got cloned too? WHAT!?!?! I mean, I'm all about suspending disbelief, but that's just plain dumb. We all know how DNA works, right?

Oh, well, okay. I don't know how it works either. But I saw Jurassic Park, so I'm pretty sure it involves frozen tree sap and frogs, neither of which were present in alien resurrection.
 
movie wise resurrection was aweful but I have to say that it was pretty nice to look at, visually speaking, the cinematography was well done.

Hmm....I think they are different, the only thing is, that they're clones!! Um, ok, I'm confusing myself.lol. But I agree with
dr Morgus.
 
here I'll sum it up as real easy. The worlds already over populated. Theres no need to make clones.

unless you beileve we'll have a war in 2055-2056 like in Star Trek: Firts contact, which leads to warp drive, which leads to....
 
cyborg was a cool movie...the only van damme movie i didn't like was double team with dennis rodman...it was hella boring...

alien ressurection...lol...i didn't get that either...

Dinosaurs layed eggs as well, they lived long before chickens did, ergo the egg came before the chicken.

Clones have merely the exact same DNA, that's all, specially with the 'nature vs nurture'-theory in mind, it's safe to say clones are not the same, so their state of mind is different

Plus, if you get a scar that runs through your whole face and after that you get cloned, the clone won't have it ... that's a fact, so clones aren't even the same physically.
 
so , what we call a clone is really only our twin ? But even twins with the same "nature" and "nurture" in common, are significantly different. They aren't copies, they are different individuals.

Some movies and series suggest clones feel and think the same way. Others show an "evil opposite" of the original. Which one is most likely, in your opinion ?

By the way, if YOU could clone someone, who would you choose ?

I would clone SPIKE , obviously !
 
spiked_by_james, Movies take an artistic licence with the idea, its not scientific fact!

cloning creates a body, it dosent create a mind.

your experience defines who you are.

if you have a clone that grew up starving in africa it would think different to you. if you had a stranger life through all the experience as you did they would think like you.

cloning is a photocopy of a body not their personality!
