Cloverfield

I finally went to see it today. I loved it, but the ending left everyone I was with quiet. I mean no one was talking the entire theater was quiet, it was weird. I loved every single character. All of em. Which sucked because one by one they all died. The first one Rob's brother, the one who would be most likely to take charge, 'boom' out of nowhere that thing wacks the bridge. I hoped he was alive, but he wasn't. : ( The camera moving wasn't as bad as I thought it could have been. I got used to it. Almost wanted him to put it down so he could GET AWAY! When they decide to actually go and get liz that one decision would have spared so many people. First Moreana(sp) I loved how she saved Hud's life. That was scary that scene. When they're looking at her bite I was praying hoping before it even happened that it wasn't like all the other scary movies where you get bitten than something horrible happens to or comes out of you. When she says she feels dizzy.. that's when I got a bit worried that it would. When it did : ( Felt so bad for Hud, and her. It look like her head exploded? she spit blood? something.

The entire way when they saw the building and he came up with the idea to climb up one and jump to the next, was funny, plus they actually listened to him haha. I kept imagining 'wow, they were on the street, now they are up there, what if they never went up there, wow, they ARE UP there now!' Hard for me to wrap my head around that if someone walked by they would have no idea you were there. The creature tearing through the buildings seemed a bit close though. When they found Liz and she was there and her eyes were closed first I think she's dead, than I thought oh crap.. she's still alive. Surprised as hell that they saved her. The monster I've never seen anything like it, can't even describe what I saw, was it part crab? part squid? The little ones were scary too. Back to Moreana :cry: Every time someone died I felt bad and sorrow for them and the people who were still left. Rob on the phone with his mother was deeply emotional, and the fact that he and liz die at the end sucks for her.. and them. Enough with my ramblings.

I really liked this movie.
 
wow. everyone is my theater didnt like it. i went with my boyfriend and two of our friends. we all felt it was a waste of money. i was so looking forward to it, and it was just ok. The monster was incredible, but the characters were... well... no one seemed to care about them. Half way through the movie things got REALLY unbelievable real fast and just kept going like that... it was getting to a point where people were scoffing. A lot of it was stupidly cheesy.

My brother and I had an hour long argument over it, he thinks its BETTER than Sweeney Todd. That's just ridiculous. Luckily, his friend stopped by because he was going somewhere, and when i asked him what he thought, he said the same as me and brought up all the same points! My bro wasn't happy about the two against one lol.

Yeaaah. Really was disappointing. Not scary... not suspenseful.... and truthfully, i just wanted every character to die. they were so annoying (except for Hud, the guy behind the camera, he was freakin funny).

I think that was part of the idea. I read something, I think it was in Entertainment Weekly, about the movie, where they said that the characters were SUPPOSED to represent the annoying 20-somethings who are insanely shallow and do nothing but party. It wasn't supposed to be heartwarming or smart or make you cry; the characters were ancillary to the plot. Because they were ancillary to the whole situation. They did not matter. Unlike M. Night Shayamalan's (I know I spelled that wrong) Signs, there's no secondary, character-driven part going on to balance the scary part and make us care about these characters who are everyday joes and not saving the world.
 
I don't know about that. I don't have any friends like them, and i have friend spanning age from mine, 21, all the way to 28, 29. They were too "pretty" and too "rich" and it just bugged me.
 
I felt the characters were real, the whole thing was meant to make you feel like you were there, like a documentary.

I got attached to the characters, most things I do because I like what I'm watching.

Every time one of them died I felt sorry for em.
 
i havent seen it yet, but from what im reading, it sounds like i should rent it.

you all just saved me $50 at the movies ($9 for tickets and the rest on popcorn and soda).

I liked it, I thought it was something new, something that hasn't been done alot. If you go with what's going on and can follow it, you'll like it. I did 🙂
 
Oh I think it's worth seeing, don't get me wrong. BUT you are left (maybe by design) questioning why this dumbass is trying to save a girl when he should be running the other direction and saving his own skin lol. Actually, that's not what I thought. I questioned why, if you supposedly love someone, you would ask them to come into a warzone and save you instead of your first priority being to tell them to get the hell out and save themselves.

Having said that it's a very cool film. The only reason I wish I had saved my $11.25 was that the camera movement made me carsick and I felt like shit the second half of the movie lol. But I think it's worth spending the money on.

Everybody who's seen this has said the same thing about the camera movements. I haven't seen it yet but I want to. I'll probaby go tomorrow night.

PS. It cost you 11.25?? The movies here are only 8.50!

That's what I thought right at first, especially when I saw the building they had to climb into. I was like, "Oh, HELL, no!" Then my husband said, "What if it was me in that building? Or you?"

Oh, yeah. *sheepish grin*

I think the amount that he was willing to go through showed how much he really did love the girl.
 
We never really got a good chance to see them interact except for the little time before the event. We saw them at there happiest moment, after being such close friends, and than we saw them fighting after they didn't talk for 3 weeks. She was terrified after the ordeal that happened and was, impaled with that metal rod. All that pain for that many hours, alone, in a building falling down. Hearing everything outside. She was scared to death, in agonizing pain, and wanted the person she was closest to to be with her. Even when he came she couldn't believe it. She did say she loved him at the end though, what else could she though.. he saved her life... for a few hours.

But after looking back at this movie, the documentary real being there feeling in a fictional movie, a monster movie( I still can't get the part out of my head when the monster comes up out of the dust and the helicopter goes down) and I personally liked the cast and the characters, I did like Rob even though we learn very little about him, we learn more about Hud, everything from his pov really. I love those type of story's. The girl he liked, was my favorite character. She does a great thing, and pays the price in the end :cry:

I'm really curious though why not too many of you enjoyed the characters. It felt to me it was a character driven story told from the POV of a small group of people thrown into things. It was more scary, I mean i guess more shocking than most other movies. Which mixed with the great effects, great story going on all around the characters, and their way of dealing with everything made for an Awesome movie. I want to see it again 😀
 
There was quite a bit more character development than I expected. Through the entire first part of the movie--especially the party--I was thinking, "Oh, my GOD, just get to the monster. Make it eat all of these people." It just reminded me why I do NOT go to parties and such (mostly because I don't drink and being sober around a bunch of drunk people is BORING). But by the end of the movie, they seem to have grown up quite a bit. Then they die. Oh, well. (See, still having trouble caring.)

Oh, and on a side note I just realized today that the girl who played Marlena was the same girl who played Janis in Mean Girls. With the completely different hair and makeup, I didn't quite recognize her (except for her mouth, which is very distinctive).
