Cloverfield

i dunno... my friends and i did the "what would you do" thing too with the building scene. Even my boyfriend and I said it wouldn't be worth it. Itd be one thing if one of us called the other and seemed otherwise ok and said "I'm trapped, i need help getting out" then yes, we'd go. But she was talking how she was bleeding and can't move, we'd assume the other person was dead if that was the case. And that we'd rather have each other leave the city and be safe than come for us and risk both of us dying. And we love each other very much... its just about what is the best choice in the situation.

And yeah i don't think she really loved him either.

Didn't one of them bring that up ... but Rob had to go anyway. The entire time he was telling them they didn't have to go but they were good friends, all of them. They cared about each other , so they went with him.

it's still ridiculous. id run into a burning building for my boyfriend but... get in between the monster and the military firing at them? its just a bit much. i dunno. not believable.

The way they did it was believable. The military wasn't firing at them.

Anyway, I loved this movie. One of the best horror movies I've ever seen, definitely THE best "giant monster" movie I've ever seen.

First off, I don't see why everyone hates the characters so much. I thought they were realistic, I didn't think they were pretentious, most of them were likable, and I thought the movie did a very good job in making the viewer invested in them. Or at least, I was invested in them and so were the people I was with.

Secondly, it really bothers me that people either say that the guy going back for the girl was unrealistic or that it was stupid of him. He loved her. If you don't think love is about sacrifice, including risking your own life for someone, I feel sorry for you. Even if I was so scared I was pissing myself I would try to save the life of someone I loved, whether it be a girlfriend, friend, parent, sibling, etc.

And a lot of people say how unrealistic it is but there are billions of people in this world and obviously there are lots of people who would risk their lives for someone else.

its not just that scene. Because its really realistic that first of all, those four would survive that long in the first place. and second of all, that theyd survive getting to her. and THEN thatd they could pull her up off a piece of metal and without any proper medical attention, expect her not to bleed to death. and THEN she's running like she's fine later on when they get to the helicopter. and THEN the helicopter crashes, and they freakin still survive! At this point the entire theater was totally turned off to this movie. Too many things that just got sillier and sillier.

Not to mention, a super indestructable camera that survives a helicopter crash and being crushed under rubble. Yes, it all makes a TON of sense.

And I DO believe love is about sarcrifice, maybe it was just the way it was done in the movie that seemed silly.

You're not going to bleed to death just because a rod goes through you. It was in her shoulder. It obviously didn't puncture any arteries, and missed her heart. People can survive for days after being stabbed, so her running around for a few hours doesn't stretch reality in the slightest. And let's not forget the adrenaline factor, which helps people do amazing things in times of crisis in real life.

And sure, you can say that they probably should have died while trying to get to her. But a.) then we wouldn't have an entire movie, and b.) after they got away from the spider things in the Subway they didn't face very much that was impossible to escape from alive.

The camera thing I agree with, the screen should at least have cracked after the crash, however, we don't know if the camera survived after the last blast, the tape just did.

oh yeah and my boyfriend brought up a good point. how were they fighting the spider things in the dark when only hud could see them through night vision, but the rest were in pitch darkness? that made no sense either.

There was too much that just didn't gel.

The camera had an external light. The main guy turns it on.

You should really watch this movie again or something, because there aren't that many inconsistencies.

even still, its not logical. even my brother, who is way pro-cloverfield (we argued over an hour about it), admitted an external light would not be able to help them fight these things, it wouldn't be enough. I also asked 2 friends who are film students and they agreed. Not in a subway tunnel, anyway.

I didn't say it was all inconsistent, i said it was over the top and silly, too many things just caused this "yeah, right" reaction. I enjoyed the movie up until a certain point, i really did, and then it took me so far out of it because nothing was believable in the least.

In the end i think the movie was ok... bordering on good. I was the most positive out of the 4 of the group that went, the other 3 wanted their money back (and i think so did quite a few others in the audience from the way they talked about it after).

I liked it better than I thought I would because I heard HORRIBLE reviews about it before I went. Stuff like "the characters are annoying" and "you never get to see the monster" (which, after I saw it, made me think, which movie were YOU watching? I got several really good looks at the monster).

I wish I'd taken some Dramamine, that's all.

Maybe because it was a bit short, they didn't think the ending would be an ending with no real, 'life goes on' afterwards. Instead it was almost all of them died. End. The people I went to see it with said "That's it..." They liked it but still in the theater it was a "that's it.." feeling at the end. Not a that is so unbelievable. The whole monster being there is unbelievable if you look at things with 'unbelievable googles' on. I let myself try and go with the story and with the monsters and all of that, after I did, everything seemed believable. Maybe a bit shocking, scary, and woah. But I could believe that they took out the things in the subway.. they didn't though.. the things attacked, they defended themselves, Moreana was 'so awesome'. She grabbed a pipe or something. Than they ran.. and barely got away. It wasn't unbelievable. Watch it again. The entire scene and the part leading up to it are

not believable from a "handi-cam" point of view. If your going to do that, the audience is going to assume its going to be more realistic. Yes, ok, monster is "unbelievable" but saying we believe that.... even everything else was a bit stretched.

And another reason why i didnt believe the guy going for the girl... she wasnt even his girlfriend. She showed up to his party with her boyfriend, and after a huge embarrassing arguement, left with that boyfriend. she was a biotch. Why would he go after her after everything that happened?

She left because Rob, slept with her, than didn't call for 3 weeks, than she showed up at his going away party. They had been friends forever, and just got very close once. Maybe it can be said it isn't believable that he loved her, but why wouldn't he? He still cared about her. He wasn't someone who was going to let his friend and than person he slept with and cared about die..

You do know this was a scifi movie, meant to be the U.S. version of Japan's Godzilla. Everything in scifi is somewhat unbelievable. Even love 😛 Let yourself believe! Than you'll enjoy everything 🙂 Or maybe It's just me hehe. But I liked what I saw. Was a tiny bit shocked he went after her but there really wasn't a huge story, the story was, a big monster is attacking the city, and here's the POV of a few people out of the millions who were there that day. That was the story, they fought to stay alive when their world was falling apart all around them. He decided to go help someone. I can try and wrap my head around that. Therefor I liked it! 😀

Rob went back for her because he was in LOVE with her. They'd known each other for a long time, he seemed to truly be in love with her, which I thought was obvious and shone through in every scene with with, even at the very beginning with they're recording each other the morning after having sex. I don't think going back for her was unbelievable.

The fact that all his friends went was somewhat stretching things, but try to think about things like this:

- They were all in shock after the initial attacks. They most likely weren't thinking straight, and since they were together when everything started, they wanted to stay together. Someone, I don't know if it was here or at the IMDb, mentioned that there are stories of complete strangers sticking together in times of crisis and disaster if they were near each other when everything happened, just because they had been together.

- They were all friends, they cared about each other, they were worried about the girl.

Also, so many people who were trying to escape were being killed by Clover that there was just as much risk trying to get out as there was trying to rescue someone.

i went and saw it, and i didnt like it straight afterwards. But im now coming slowly around to if after i think about it.

My friend says, that at the very end of the movie, when you see the guy and the girl on the ride thing, that if you look in the backgound, you can see the monster coming up out of the sea? I cant really remember. And what happened was, something (like a satellite) crashed into the sea which awoke the monster. Can anyone confirm?

Also my friend said that the movie characters all have myspace pages and their last login time is the day the movie came out. I cant be bothered searching, but i love how thats done. Even with lost, having a real oceanic airways site etc.

LOVE your sig!
yeah i heard about the ocean thing too, but i looked very carefully, and saw nothing. im going to see if someone has it on youtube yet (cuz heck, theres already Sweeney Todd clips on youtube).

People who love each other try to make each other jealous every now and then. 🙂 And besides, it's not like she knew if he liked her or not after not calling her for weeks.

Took some pills before the movie to ease the motion-sickeness. That helped.
Also, didn't the one girl who got into the helicopter by herself survive? I don't really remember seeing anything that suggested that it went down or anything??

I was pretty much on the edge of my seat the entire time. Not because I cared for the characters and wanted them to survive the entire time. I knew they were doomed from the second it started. I just think the whole perspective was insane to watch, and the fact that no music was used except for the party scene was interesting, too.

It's a different movie that I haven't seen before. I enjoyed it.
