A ’90s pop culture staple is eyeing a comeback. An hour-long Clueless TV series, based on the hit 1995 feature, is in the works at CBS TV Studios. I hear the project, a new, dramatic take on the high school comedy centered on the Dionne character played by Stacey Dash in the movie and the 1996 series adaptation, has been taken out, drawing strong interest from multiple streamers as well as the CW.

Written by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey (Will & Grace), the new Clueless — Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo music video — also is set in high school. It is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend, all in a setting that is uniquely 2020 L.A.?
 
Sounds like Veronica Mars meets Riverdale more so than Mean Girls. I was ready to be irritated that they changed the lead from Cher to Dionne but the summary actually makes that sound pretty decent and not like yet another attempt to be PC. Wonder who they're looking at for the characters we know from the film...

The Will & Grace writer gives me hope it'll be drama with enough humor to make it a good blend.
 
Or better still, how about an update for the previous generation of the film, I guess that would mean the crew and CBS would be for both generations pre and post, Clueless.

But really, Cher disappears mystery… Does everything have to have a hint of sexed up true crime? Also, come to think of it... how is this not Pretty Little Liars? This "also is set in high school. It is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look" actually sounds a lot like PLL.

It might be like PLL? God, don't get me all excited, what if it doesn't turn out that way? I would love more PLL 😀

I thought you meant because hollywood wouldn't touch her to scratch her anymore and she is so desperate for a job.
 
Really? Like dislike has nothing to do with it, all Hollywood bosses care about is if the name makes them money.
