Some believe that the former potentials had it way too easy when fighting the Turok in the hellmouth. There arguement makes sense when one thinks..."if Buffy had trouble fighting just one Ubervamp, then how will the new "Psythe" slayers be able to put up such a good fight with a whole bunch of them?" However, my theory is that Buffy destroying the first Ubervamp, in Showtime, was not only symbolic of the scoobies victory but was a much more mystical experience. Meaning that Buffy had destroyed this major player, who had a lot of power, and weakened The First's forces. Thus, diluting evil's collective power and making good's collective power stronger.

That is an interresting theory.. But I think that there really isnt much behind the answer to it... I mean, this was entirely new to Buffy when she first encountered it.. So she was shocked, as always when she meets a new challenge... But after she learned more, as little as it was, she knew how she could kill it... She knew she HAD to kill it... I think that the "new Slayers" were able to stand up and fight these Ubervamps merely because they had the knowledge that it could be done... Plus getting Super Slayer strength had got to be like a HUGE booster to the courage and well strength... Oh and dont forget the weapons... Those help too 😀

And I dont think they had it easily at all... Alot of them died and most were injured... They were simply moer prepared for the fight than Buffy was when she first encountered it...

Well, it's true. But Joss told us the first "ubervamp" was a lot harder to kill because the show needed it to be. It needed to be hard for Buffy to kill that first one. And they needed to be easier to kill after a while, that's why they were... So I'm guessing there is no "realer" reason...

Plus, they just had to hold their ground in a small area while the ubervamps were more spread out.

I just came up with an idea why the ubervamps in the helmouth where so easy to kill, think about the first one had been out of the hellmouth for a while so had probably fed off a lot off humans whereas the others maybe haven't fed for as long as they've been down there so obviously wont be as strong, i mean there is evidence to suggest this in chosen because although there is a battle going on we see uber vamps eating people- when realistically thats stupid because all it needs is someone to come up from behind and stake them but they do it anyway, then again they do seem swinish so maybe dont think rationally who knows!!!

good thinking.
Also, the ubervamps that came from the seal had to have a special ritual performed (the blood letting like they did with Spike and what Ashanti tried to do with Xander). One can reason that this ritual made them stonger.

I'm not sure that the blood letting ritual had anything to do with the strength of the Turok Han itself, it was just done to open the seal. If we were to assume the ritual also empowered the Turok Han that came through the seal then all the ones that made it into the school in Chosen should have been extra powerful as well. Buffy, Faith and the potentials had used the blood ritual to open the seal after all. However all the ones Xander, Giles, Dawn and the rest fought seemed as weak as the ones still in the Hellmouth.

However i do think you are on to something. My take on why the first Turok Han was so much more powerful is that after it was released the First empowered it in the same way we saw it empower Caleb in End of Days. That would explain why it was so much harder to kill than it's brethren.

I can't give you rep for that, but that's a good point.

Joss himself said that the original Turok Hans were stronger because they had to be. Unfortunately, our human quality of questioning comes in and tries to explain what may never be completely known 😀

Yeah, i think we all probably realise that the Turok Han "became" weaker for the episode Chosen simply because it serviced the story for that to happen!

In many ways though it's the same as we saw happen with regular vampires. There was a time that they were something only the slayer could deal with yet by the end of the two shows anyone with basic training could take them out. Giles, Robin, Wesley, Gunn, Justine, all just regular strength humans that could do what the Slayer was made to do. Hell, even Dawn took out her fair share of vamps.

It might be a little questionable within the context of the show for these creatures to suddenly become so much less dangerous but if it makes for a good story then does it really matter? 😀

Thats true too. I'll have to watch it over and over again to see if there is a difference in strength, but if my memory serves me, the Potentials were told by Anya during her little "lesson" that the "Ubervamps" could be staked IF done by an incredible force ie Slayer strength. None of them had it at the time.

I'm standing by my adrenaline theory! They wanted to kick @$$, so they did 😀

Well, maybe since the blood of slayers and potentials were used the power effect was opposite on the Turok.

BTW, all great ideas!
