So you know comfort food but what's your comfort tv - not BTVS or Angel - what's your go to tv show(s) when you need comfort or something you love and have seen a few times??


Mine is The Vampire Diaries & The Originals.
I love vampire media and I didn't think I'd like these when I started episode one of TVD but I was so wrong. I've lost count how many rewatches I've done now... (currently s5 TVD & s1 TO) lol.

So how about you?
 
Almost always comedy:
The I.T Crowd
Black Books
Spaced
Psych
Parks & Rec
Frasier
The only non-comedy I can just switch on and comfort-watch is Farscape.

Alternatively a horror movie; either very good/atmospheric or cheesy and silly. I find it very cathartic.

Definitely Bob's Burgers as the number one spot at the moment, but I have a few floating around. Mostly sitcoms (How I Met Your Mother, New Girl), the occasional one-hour drama (Supernatural, 9-1-1, Criminal Minds). Mostly, for me, what comfort means is something I'm familiar with, something I know will bring me joy. I used to watch Castle over and over again until, frankly, I got sick of it, but I've recently rediscovered my love for it through Simple Reactions as Logan is now three seasons deep into it 🙂

But also North & South the miniseries. Can watch these on endless repeat (can vary the fare by watching the 2005 P&P movie or 2020 Emma movie 😉 )


For other series How I met your mother I frequently put on as comfort tv. Sometimes Charmed (the early seasons)

I also liked Castle before, but then watched it too much. Same with Criminal minds and Law & Order SVU

If I want a roller-coaster - The 100
If I want to do craft and remember that hunger makes ya mental - Alone or Survivor
If its hot - the Twilight movies
If I want something running in the background - Supernatural, the Star Treks, TVD, Scrubs.

Gilmore Girls - This show has quality writing and quality characterizations. It’s witty and something I rewatch every fall.
Charmed - My perfect low stakes show. The writing and characterizations aren’t remotely consistent but the nostalgia and sister moments will always give me a soft spot.
Modern Family - My favorite comedy that’s actually funny.

For me I'll generally veer towards comedies. Shows I've watched a million times over, but never tire of:

Seinfeld
Family Guy
The Nanny
The Golden Girls
Hot In Cleveland
(and many more!)

You can jump in at any point, at any episode. Easy viewing, guaranteed laughs. I also would've said Friends, but since Matty passed away I haven't really watched it. Feels strange.

I haven't seen the new Frasier yet, but I intent to. :)
There are so many series I have not watched as yet that I would like to that I don't do a lot of rewatching. If I am not in the mood to watch something new, I often tend to do something different instead. The main exceptions are The Big Bang Theory, which I have a habit of putting on when cooking, or when I feel like watching a film that does not require a lot of thinking, when I may rematch one, such as a chick flick, romcom, or Stuff Blowing Up.*

*Stuff Blowing Up is TM Michael Bay.
 
@Puppet - you've got some comedy royalty in HIC - the Queen that is Betty White, Wendie Malick (who I first saw in the series Just Shoot Me and thought she was hilarious there), and Jane Leeves. Valerie Bertinelli I wasn't really familiar with.

I also randomly gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised, the cast was enough to draw me in!
 
I can't go passed Moonlight.
The dulcet Vampire tones of the vampire Alex O'Loughlin and the classic beautiful lines of Sophia Myles, she was in my favourite episode of Dr. Who = The girl in the Fire place.
Sophia Myles was Madame du Pompidou (?)

Oh Moonlight was such a good show. And so many people don't know about it!
Gilmore Girls ...the ultimate comfort watch .

Smallville maybe?

I've also got a lot of time for Teen Wolf , Grimm , Charmed , The Magicians , Babylon 5 , Xena , Legend of the Seeker , Stranger Things, Killjoys and many others but these require a bit more attention than pure comfort fare .

Gilmore Girls and Due South are probably my comfort tv in it's purest form .

Oh my gosh when I was younger I LOVED Due South! Northern Exposure was also good too.

I would have included Northern Exposure too . but I've tried and failed to rewatch it a couple of times recently . Youtube has a gorgeous AI remaster of the whole Due South run . Well worth a look 🙂 . That dreamlike magical character of Due South , Northern Exposure and Gilmore Girls will never got old for me .
I should add Wonderfalls to that list too . Another Youtube remastered show from 2004 with that quirky essence .
