I think that if a Movie was to come around it could follow on from Comic(even though I don't read) but it should not be based on the comic story.

Yeah, obvious parallels with Buffy 8 and X-Men storylines. You've got the zealous general at war with superhumans sworn to protect humanity, etc, etc.
Seems like getting the premise rolling in a comprehensible way for newbs would be the hard part. In the movies, Wolverine was obviously the key figure, introducing the audience to the X-Men world, the X-Mansion.
Faith is that kind of rogue character/outsider. She could sort of ease people into the scenario, come to Scotland, take a tour with Buffy, whatever, heh. I can imagine something...just not something very much like the TV show.
Seeing a mega-budget Buffy flick would be interesting though.

How could they possibly create a film with all these issues. The season isn't even over yet. There's more issues to come. I doubt they'll be able to make a film out all these issues.

I know there are a lot of people here who hate mention of the "S T" words, especially as it pertains to Buffy, but "Star Trek-The Next Generation" was better made, better casted, and lasted longer than the original. A new Vampire Slayer movie or series doesn't have to involve any of the original cast to be successful. Who knows? (blasphemy of blasphemies!!) It might be even better.

I never really watched ST myself, but I believe you if you say it's better. But wasn't TNG made 15 years after the original ended? Buffy has only ended 4 years ago and Angel 3. I think that if Joss would go up to Networks about 10 years from now asking to make a new Slayer-show they'd jump at the chance to do it.

The New Buffy Generation
The Next Generation did indeed take quite a few years to come into being after the original show, but there were several Star Trek movies in between, and the point was proven that a relatively successful "cult" series like Star Trek could spawn even more successful/popular sequels, AND attract a whole new generation (no pun intended) of fans, plus its own spin offs, not to mention even more movies (how many of you are aware that a new ST movie is in the works with an appearance by Leonard Nimoy recreating his immortal Spock?).
Star Trek stands as a testimony to the fact that loyal fans and a dynamic creator (read about Gene Roddenberry sometime, He was at least as great an innovator in the entertainment field as Whedon) CAN bring back a series.
The fans' support is vital to the accomplishment of that goal, however, so it is largely up to all of us to show that the possibility of such a thing is possible. We have to write to the studios, the creator, the networks, and any of the other Powers That Be in the entertainment world to make our feelings known, Whedon is the sort of man who seems to like new challenges, and the possibility of an animated movie might be the sort thing to pique his interest. The advantages of unlimited locales and the solution to the aging actor question (Marsters' famous "I'll give you five years" ultimatum) could be addressed and eliminated, along with the question of actor commitment. Coming in and delivering your dialog for a few hours a day is much less strenuous than spending twelve hours a day, six days a week working on a project. It allows for a personal life, and even working on other things like tv shows or live movies as a viable possibility.
Add to all of the above that the advances in computer technology are making such a project more possible every day, and the Buffy-verse becomes a place we can all visit once more. But for that, or any other new project to be launched, it takes an expressed interest by the fans, and by that , I mean a LOUD expression from a HUGE AMOUNT of fans, as well as a great amount of work by the cast and crew. It might not be known by the readers here, but a write in campaign by the fans actually kept the original Star Trek on the air for an additional season by a massive write in campaign to Desilu Studios and Star Trek's producers. We can accomplish at least that much if we really try.
Unless you guys are willing to finally admit that a bunch of Trekkies can do something we can't...

Sure, why not? Obviously you couldn't replicate the comics blow-by-blow in the film format, but a basic storyline about super powered girls hunting down demons while being hunted themselves by the US military is certainly doable.
However, how popular is the Buffy Comic? I doubt it's anywhere near X-men, Batman, Spiderman, Superman or other popular comic series with long histories?

Buffy might not have been around as long as the really old superheroes like Superman and Batman, but the following is just as loyal, just as supportive, as the fans of the "big guys.' plus the majority of Buffy fans are in the magic age (18 to 30, if I remember correctly) that make up the majority of the movie audiences. Also, a movie only has to be moderately successful in the theaters to be a financial success (can you say "DVD?"). If movies like "The Scorpion King," and "The Alamo" can do it, plus most of the "Highlander" franchise to name just a few, Buffy and Angel are a shoo in. (With DVD, you can even have alternate scenes/endings. Imagine a Buffy movie where she ends up finally naming either Spike OR Angel[Spit! Gag! Choke! Curse!] as her "one true love." "Have it your way" becomes a literal truth with just the flick of your faithful remote.)

This is hypothetical right, 'cause I mean, if they couldn't afford to make it into a series of the TV show, I highly doubt they can afford to make a movie of it.
But I think a movie might be a good idea, it depends really.
I read a few of the first replies, and I totally think that it just wouldn't be the same without the original cast of the BuffyVerse.

I'm not sure about the absolute costs involved, but I believe Whedon said somewhere once that an episode of Buffy had a budget of around a hundred thousand dollars. Multiply that by 22 episodes per season and you have a cost of over two million dollars, coupled with 8 or 9 months work. It should be possible to make a decent movie for that amount or less, even if it went straight to DVD, which seems to be the place Whedon's movies and tv programs make their money anyhow. Add to that, he could have more than one movie in progress at a time, the way the Lord of the Rings franchise did (Imagine a Buffy movie, a Faith movie, and an Angel movie, all with interlocking plot like an alliance of the Senior Partners, the First Evil, and the Immortal, all trying to take over the world: the apocalypse of apocalypses).
Whether such a project would be within the scope and resources of Whedon and his team, or whether he would want to undertake it, I don't know. But it sure would thrill a lot of Buffy fans.

I'm not sure if it affects your point White Avenger, but I think you'll find your cost per episode is uh...off a little".
Here's a squib from an old article at BBC, back when UPN wound up taking Buffy from the WB. It would have been after Season 5. Things were cheaper.

Come to think of it...BotD just reminded me of something at AfterDarkness.com. They're making a movie based on the original Star Trek where all the characters are recast. Don't be telling me that SMG is anymore Buffy than Shatner is Kirk, or Nimoy is Spock.
