Hey everybody.

This is my first post here, and I can't imagine being first with it, but searching the forum (and the internet) didn't give me any answers.

I just finished watching Buffy for the second time, and Angel season 4, for the first time (and in the correct order). So I still have left season 5 of Angel (very spoiler allergic!), but I am also very interested in reading the new comics. From what I understand Fray is somewhat necessary/recommended, are there any other of the "earlier" comics I "need" to read?

Is Buffy season 8 set at the same time as Angel season 5, or should I watch Angel s5 before reading any comics? And well, all I really want is a nice list of which order I should read the comics (and perhaps watch Angel s5). I saw the "Oft-Asked Questions concerning Buffy/Angel" thread, but was unable to view any of the answers, it said I did not have permission.

Thanks in advance, I hope I'll find much joy from this forum 🙂

I'd say to finish Angle before reading any comics. If you are going to read season 8, then certainly read Fray. If you're not going to read season 8, then still read Fray... it's a very good comic 🙂

On season 8: Read it if you're into comics. Personally it didn't sit too well for me, from a story arc standpoint.

On earlier comics: They have been re-published in nifty Omnibus compilation format. I've read them all.. I've liked them all. Some are set pre-buffy, and some in-between episodes/seasons. These didn't have story arc issues, since they were all forced (pretty much) to stick with existing story lines laid out by the show. I know what you're trying to do here.. but I'd say don't even try to mix media in your viewing order.. it will drive you crazy.

Another comic I'd recommend: Tales of the Slayers

As for Angel, I can't say too much since I haven't read those comics.

I think the Origin story(s?) contained within the Buffy Omnibus are essential. And Fray obviously. I wasn't that impressed with Tales of the Slayers. They were interesting, but I dont' see them as essential. We have a season 8 re-read going on now. I'm sure we'll be done by the time you're ready to start, but since it's a more recent discussion, feel free to join in! We're trying to keep it as spoiler-free as we can. 🙂 https://www.buffy-boards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=402

As far as the Angel comics go, I've only read After the Fall at this point. I personally don't know how essential pre-AtF comics are. Hopefully somebody else can tell us.

Ok, I am confused.I new to the buffy comic world, so forgive me for my, well, newness. What is the Fray?

Hey, Aly. It's actually just Fray, and she's the slayer of the future. Fray is Joss's first real foray into comics and the eight issues are frigging amazing! And even though they take place a good 200 (if I recall correctly) or so years into the future, they definitely set the stage for things to come currently.

Very, very necessary.
