So I'm thinking about reading the comics because I feel like a missing a whole bunch of exciting stuff...but I don't know where to start.
I don't know what the chronological order of the issues/etc is. Would someone mind helping me with that? Also, where can i read them for free? Because I definitely don't have the money for all of them.
Help, please?😱
 
I don't know where you could read them for free. I had to stop in the middle because I couldn't justify spending that much money on them when I wasn't enjoying them that much. I do intend to get caught up since I stopped right after the revelation of Twilight. You might find them for a discount on ebay and then you could resell them when you're done.

Pretty much Season 8 and Angel After the Fall are considered canon (though I personally don't because Joss said at Paley that if he were to do a spin off show or movie he would disregard the events of the comics so I personally see the comics as a continuation of the story in an alternate universe and separate from the tv show but most people disagree with me on that).

I still think they're worth reading (though I take them with a grain of salt) and am not at all impressed with the artwork.
 
Buffy season 8 is essential reading since it continues Buffy's adventures. I also recommend "Angel: After the Fall" it's also canon and a very good read
 
I know now you can get them like all binded together (comics into graphic novels, is that the right term?) where it will have like Season Eight Volume I.

See I can't decide on the comics. I'm not sure if I can handle reading comics. I mean I read the funny pages in the newspaper but that is as close as I get. I'm a fan of words, comes with begin a writer I guess. *sigh* I just can't decide.

I couldn't disagree more. I don't care if it's canon, Buffy season 8 reads like bad fan fiction. It even has the creepy pairings and bizarre sex scenes.

If you want a decent comic set in the greater Buffyverse, pick up Fray. It's entirely self-contained, so you don't have to worry about continuity issues, and it's a lot of fun. Aside from that, Buffy comics tend to be...well, lousy, to be honest.

The first term your looking for is "trade paperback." Graphic novels are longer, typically self-contained stories.

And I'm sure there are comics out there you'd like, but you probably won't find them in the Buffyverse.

Well I was specifically referring to Buffy and Angel because I want to know what's going on. I feel like I'm missing out on a lot, even if they aren't that good.
I'm going to look up stuff about the trade paperback and see if maybe I can get that at a library...do you guys think that would be available in some library?

Maybe. You can get a lot of comics at libraries but I don't know since the comics are only four years old.

You can find them in libraries. I bought the trade paperbacks from the libraries. And please, please, don't read them thinking they're bad. I read them and I found them AWESOME! I love them so much. Read them with an open-mind and think that you're gonna enjoy them. Have fun while reading them. I know I did.

They're canon and we discuss their events all the time. So it's much better if you enjoy them than if you hate them. 🙂
 
Just because someone doesn't like them doesn't mean they aren't canon.

I'm finding the Buffy season 8 TPBs (trade paperbacks) cheaper used or like new on Amazon than EBay. Also check out your local public library if you want to check them out before buying. That's what I did. Now I'm collecting the TPBs in my re-read. BTW we have a season 8 re-read sub-forum if you'd like to join in. Season 9 will start at the end of August.

I never said season 8 was the best, I even agree with you that it reads like bad fan fiction. But's it's canon and is giving us new Buffy adventures, so I keep reading it for that one reason, and it's not the worse comics i've ever read
 
I'm really hoping they have them at my library or I'm screwed. Even if I don't like them I'll probably keep reading them anyway because of the story. If they aren't at the library I'll check for cheaper TPBs on Amazon like you guys said.
 
My local library doesn't have them, it did once have on in, but that was only for a few weeks. 🙁
 
I am not sure of outside the US, but I actually just read them at the local Barnes and Noble or Borders most of which have comfortable seating, and you don't have to buy them in order to read them. I was able to get through the each TPB volume in about 2 hours, and I tend to read kind of slowly. So this might be an option of how to read them without having to spend a lot of money.

My local bookshops only have a maximum of 3 in, and they're never in order. By local I mean in the two cities near me, there's none in the bookshops in town
 
I do my online searching with Swagbucks, so I earn points. When I earn 450 points, I can trade them in for $5 Amazon gift cards. So I bought the season 8 Predators & Prey TPB for about $5.

ITA about Fray. Not just a necessity for the Time Of Your Life arc, but the entire season.
