Computer help needed

So I have had enough of Windows 10, and have used Linux before on other computers, does anyone have a east step by step process on how I change from Windows to Linux. Or another system if there's another good one out there (Ubunto?)

I'll go back to older windows too if that's possible (and free)
 
I don't know, do I need to keep windows 10?

I only really use the laptop for internet and Libre Office, which I know runs on Linux.

I was thinking of using Linux Mint, which I've used before and I know that Libre and Gimp work on.

I guess dual would be better for all the things I've either downloading or stored on the computer already?

I don't know anything more than that... personally at work people run what I tell them- windows 10- and I haven't used anything other than a mac in so long. Why do you not want windows? Seems like you should be able to change OS without any debilitating side effects but I also know that windows and microsoft are little basturds when it comes to putting sneaky stuff on your computer and their drivers and what not.
 
I keep having problems with Windows 10, the last one being a DNS issue, very annoying! All the issues have been fixable but it's taken me a while and a lot of Googling!
 
Grr that's annoying, I started getting it all sorted and then it's a usb download, I don't want to have to have a usb plugged in to make it work, for one I haven no idea where mine is and it's certainly not a blank one, so I'll have to go out and buy another

Yeah, they use the USB as a boot disc I think.
I've used Ubuntu in the past, I really liked it. I installed it on a ye olde laptop where Windows ran like a dog, and Ubuntu was really slick and so super easy to install, but for me the convenience of Windows won me over and my little Ubuntu laptop just sat gathering dust. From what I remember the process was really easy, just boot it from a USB drive and you can either install it on your formatted drive, or you can run it independently from the USB too which is super handy if you're not sure what you're doing with Linux and want to have a bit of a play first. I'm sure the newer versions of Linux are even better, it's been years since my Ubuntu install, but if you need any help give me a shout 🙂
 
Windows 10 is honestly the worst. If you upgraded, you can revert back to whatever you had before you updated. Like Windows 8/8.1 You'd have to go into the settings to find it.

I can agree, but Windows 10 has a ton of issues with connecting to the internet. It usually will not let you, and remove the wifi signal for some unknown reason. Updating the driver usually works, but it takes a while. I don't mind using 8.1
 
That's weird. I had issues with my wireless mouse/keyboard connecting. However, that might've been my PC. 😕
 
Four computers, never have had a single issue with Windows 10. Nothing at all. ::knock on wood:: For me it's the closest Windows has ever gotten to OS in terms of stability.
 
I do think there are some upgrade issues to Windows 10 that remain unresolved. For example, my mum's pc has a similar reoccurring issue with the WiFi, where it will just stop working sporadically; this was an upgrade from Windows 8.1. I had issues on my home pc with keyboard and mouse drivers; an upgrade from Windows 7. There's always going to be issues with an infinite number of hardware and software combinations. I think their upgrade tool was ambitious, but clearly not everything can be supported going forward.

I've never had any issues with the copy of Windows 10 which came with my laptop.
 
The only issue I have with Windows 10 is that it doesn't recognize that the computer has a working CD drive so I can't use CD's.

CD problems aside, I'll take it over previous versions of Windows and Mac OS X anyday.
 
I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and found that I could get the computer from "off" to running a browser within two minutes. This was a big improvement over Windows 7. Although I have Edge installed, I still run Internet Explorer 10 because I like it better. Windows 10 appears to be very stable. There are upgrades that have done some "interesting" things - sometimes the browser will appear to hang but any mouse click will prompt it to re-acquire whatever you were looking for.

One thing that is still an annoyance with Windows 10 is that you have to have a home page and you can't select anything until that page loads. Then you can go to your favourites. I would prefer that your favourites list comes up and you can select where to start.
