Question Confused about the episode "The Dark Age"

I am currently rewatching Buffy and I am on season two as of right now. I just got finished with "The Dark Age" episode ad I am very confused about it.
So why exactly did Giles and his coven friends summon that demon? Was it for an Orgy? Also why did it comeback to get back at them? I feel like the answers are obvious, but for some reason this episode just does not click for me..

I've always seen Eyghon as a drug metaphor. Giles told Buffy that one of them would go into a trance (or something to that effect) and the others would call the demon into said person's body, which would result in "an incredible high". However, as with normal drugs, the danger was the lack of control and one of the coven members "overdoses" (ie. the demon killed him from the inside).

I assume Eyghon was coming after them simply because it could and possibly also as revenge for them using it in such a way.

I thought it was the same as the calling of Machida in "Reptile Boy". The demon was summoned by people (including Giles) with the prospect of gaining the demon's power for their personal use. In their case, it was not riches or fame, but the rush of it and if the possession that was induced was not reversed within a short time, it would become permanent. They lost control of the demon and it killed one of Giles' friends. The demon has come back to systematically wipe out all the people who had called it those twenty years earlier.

Seeing Giles in any other state than his normal reserved mood is always entertaining.

I think of this as similar to why the First Slayer was so ticked off and trying to kill the Scoobies. Her power wasn't meant to be used that way. (To be "shared", namely.) Eyghon probably didn't like that humans were harnessing his power for their own use.
