confused: angel dead yes or no

Hello everyone. I am very new to message boards so bear with me. I started watching Buffy in season 2. Missed many episodes but fell in love with show. However, I know the story line of Angel and Buffy except what happened right before she staked him. Did the spell work and if so why did she kill him anyway. Also, if she did kill him how did they explain the Angel spinoff? I would like to thank everyone in advance for their time to answer me.

The spell did work at the last minute, but as the portal was already open, so to 'save the world' she had to kill Angel.

He was sent back my the Powers That Be in the next season, then at the end decided that he needed to get away from Sunnydale. Hence, the spinoff.

it sure is buffy.However,i'm sorry to correct you,but the powers that be didn't bring him back,evil forces did so that they could get him to kill the slayer,but he threatened to end his life instead to keep his darker side from rising,obviously he didn't kill himself though,but he would have if the sun had risen instead of the snow falling.When he first came back,he was like an animal,he had spend hundreds of years in hell suffering unbearable torture after being sent there by buffy,this was becouse time is different and slower there,but in the episode that he came back in,he recognised buffy at the end,and grew stronger every day since then,till the day he left for L.A

and he wasn't "killed" at the end of "becoming" just sent to a hell dimension.i don't think it was ever really established who brought angel back.the evil force theory could just be angels self pity and guilt.

yes,possibly charles,but in the episode where angel does threaten to sacrifice his own life,the evil spirit taking jenny calenders form tells him that they brought him back to kill the slayer.
