Everyone give a cheer for my grandson, Addicus, who has just received his 1st Degree black belt in Chang Moo Kwan, Kukkiwan certification.

(For those not familiar, Chang Moo Kwan is one of the oldest forms of the martial art now referred to as Tae Kwon Do)

I know you've mentioned him before, but I didn't think he was very old? Is there a average age for getting the black belt?

Thank you. Addicus was ranked 2nd in the country in his rank and age division last year, and he couldn't go to the finals because of a foot injury while training. He's all healed up now, and ready to get back in. He's also pestering his dad to let him start training in Hapkido, even though he's 4 years younger than our minimum age for that (16) and he's already started talking about Judo, but the closest instructor is almost 50 miles away from here.

Now that you have your Black Belt, you will realize you are just beginning to understand how mind and body are connected.

He just turned 12, which is actually a bit young for the black belt, but he's been doing this since he was 3, first in our Tiny Tigers program, then Junior Ninjas, and finally into the regular Tae Kwon Do class, and he has been working in the young adult class as an assistant instructor for almost a year now. Master Mooreland, who is the Grandmaster with whom we are affiliated, and the regional representative for the Kukkiwan in Korea was the one who awarded him his belt, so his rank is sanctioned.
