I'm guilty of putting metal in the microwave, and within seconds shouting 'Crap!' before quickly taking it out.

Saw a movie where the hero used that to make the microwave to explode killing his opponent.

Oh yes I've had a few near misses with candles. Luckily I prefer the large Yankee candles so harder to knock over and have proper saucers, but yeah I've forgotten about them and gone out before with them still burning!

Not this year. No burning, just a hellscape of mud! Chris Rock had to walk five miles to a road to hitchhike to Reno. (So did a lot of other people, but I only care about Chris surviving this ordeal.)

I'm not so sure about letting her loose with two candles, I have heard that fire can be started by rubbing two sticks together so is the same possible by rubbing two candles together. Could it be that only works at night, you'd need a lighted candle to see what you is doing?
