Congress and sexual harassment

This is interesting, I was not aware there was a difference.

Congress makes its own rules about the handling of sexual complaints against members and staff, passing laws exempting it from practices that apply to other employers. The result is a culture in which some lawmakers suspect harassment is rampant. Yet victims are unlikely to come forward, according to attorneys who represent them.

Under a law in place since 1995, accusers may file lawsuits only if they first agree to go through months of counseling and mediation. A special congressional office is charged with trying to resolve the cases out of court.

Nice to know our tax dollars go to helping prevent sexual harassment victims from coming forward.

I agree, but they've been basically making their own rules almost from the very beginning, so I doubt that we're going to see any major change in that anytime soon.

It's a sad fact that those in power are always inclined, eventually, to abuse that power. I think that that was one of the reasons why our Founding Fathers tried to establish a government run by elected officials, rather than a hereditary ruling class. Unfortunately, we have far too many professional politicians running our country.

An honest one maybe, with an actual desire to do what is best for all Americans,without selling favors, or uranium, to the highest bidder, in order to fill their own pockets. Sadly, we haven't had one of those in a long, long time.

This is kinda what the catholic church does (here), eventually there were enough victims to call for a royal commission, which really doesnt seem to be helping anyone.

Chair-sniffer 'was in mock sexual ecstasy'

This guy claims mental illness. So, can we judge him? Apparently not... If someone in group therapy did that they would likely be sent to a locked ward and banned from group situations. This is where chair sniffing got him -

So going public didn't exactly punish the grot either.

Different rules for different incomes, across the board. Positions of power don't want to loose that power and will do anything to protect it.
