So I have my computer (a PC laptop) connected to my new Samsung TV with a D sub cable. Video works fine.

When I went to connect the audio, I don't have a PC audio port on my laptop, so I connected the PC to the TV with a Y cable to the headphone jack. But no sound.

It *should* work and everything I read on the net tells me it should work so why is it not working?! Anyone have any ideas for me?

My fiance said "The TV is not designed to play audio AND video using the d sub port. It will only play if you hook it up to a home cinema system..."

But do not ask me what he's talking about.

He's saying the sound doesn't go through the D-Sub (just the video). Which I know lol - my problem is getting the audio to go through an audio Y cable (Red & White on one end, phono plug on the other). 🙂

I'm thinking I've confused cables and I might be able to use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to connect from the PC Audio jack of the tv to the headphone jack of the pc...

Is D-sub a digital video input? 'cos your 'Y' cable sounds right for that set-up. Check the TV on-screen menus to make sure the sound input isn't turned off anywhere or defaulted to 'off' because you have something like like an HDMI cable between TV and PVR/TIVO. This is where I'd be closely studying the manual for something that I'd missed...the full manual, not the 'quick start' guide though...I've fallen foul of that before 😉

Oh, I forgot the simplest answer...which I'm sure you already checked...make sure your TV is set to the correct input...that'll be in the manual. I've done stuff like that before...trying to watch on SCART 1 input when device is playing into SCART 2! GRRR!
