Connections between S8 and Angel S5

If I remember correctly, it was stated that the events in Season 8 took place beginning about 18 months after the destruction of Sunnydale, so I can't see any way that there were any connections, if by that you mean situations that were or could have been happening simultaneously in both storylines. However, since it has been pretty well established and accepted that only IDW's "After The Fall" arc was actually canon, so the scene where Angel pops into reality and crashes into the big "Hollywood" sign MIGHT be interpreted as what happened immediately after the end of that arc. If so, that could be considered to be the point where both series came back into the same time frame.
 
Just to make it clear, Season 8 takes place after Angel Season 5, a year and a half after Season 7 of Buffy. It doesn't run side by side like the previous Seasons.

The only reference I can think if is in the first issue of Season 8 Buffy says she has two other slayers doubling as her. One of them dating the immortal, which apparently Andrew told her would be funny. Obviously because of Spike and Angel's history with him. This double is obviously the blonde we saw dancing toward the end of Season 5 of Angel.

This also explains why the bartender got her eye color wrong when she described her to Spike and Angel. It wasn't the real Buffy.
