Connor and Cordy

I say to each his own and to avoid anybody just going off the deep end, everybody has the right to like or dislike, watch or not watch etc. etc. What amazes me is the following:
1. It's a TV show, and fantasy at that.
2. The real world is a lot more gross, disturbing and twisted than a younger man and an older woman. (CNN news, war in Iraq, Jonas Brothersetc.) And Cordy was a Surrogate mother at best - but only from HER perspective, Connor didn't grow up with her, they only had like one month together before Connor was stolen and taken to Quartoth.
3. It wasn't my favorite scene either but I sure wasn't about to abandon the show because of it or any other DISTURBING scene. As a matter of fact, if you don't want to be disturbed, confronted, shaken up, have your perceptions rattled etc. etc. why watch horror in the first place?
4. I've probably mentioned this on another thread but when movies like SAW show decapitations, self mutilations and exploding headgear in full color, (and $ucce$$fully I might add) how is two people showing affection disturbing? (I might add that this same arguement could be used to justify the Willow / Tara kiss or any same sex interaction on TV) (and I don't in anyway mean to advocate pedofilia, which it wasn't, nor equate pedofilia with same sex love - there have I covered my butt?)

In his non.fiction book "Danse Macabre" Stephen King mentions that the reason that we watch Horror is to be confronted by TABOO elements of society. Whether metaphorically using demons or realistically using the characters and relationships, Buffy and Angel do this beautifully. It pushes the boundaries, which NEED to be pushed, like em or not.

Great post Uncle Rory. I agree that people need to keep it in perspective and realize it's not real. When you're as into the Buffyverse on the level most of us are, it's easy to get really wrapped up in the characters. I think that it's important to keep in mind what the show was intending with the story line of Conner and Cordy. They were just trying to show Cordy's confusion at coming back with no memory and the struggles she had to go through. She didn't know who to trust. Conner was the only one whom was honest with her - so of course she'd grow attached to him. He was legal, he's cute - whatever.

THE JONAS BROTHERS! LOL I totally agree. They're pretty disturbing 🙂

I agree as well that thier relationship was certainly not a reason to abandon the show. But it each it's own. No one should have to watch it if they're uncomfortable with it.

And lastly, great point about how horror uses metaphorical and literal demons to comment on real life problems. As I have said before; Buffy changed the way people looked at television. It didn't do that by sticking by the established rules, it did that by pushing the boundaries.

I mean, Angel and Cordy was bounding because they had baby Connor... And them she sleep with him? It´s like sleeping with her own child... ew ew ew
 
There was no other episode of Angel that had me gaping in astonishment at the screen, I trusted Joss enough to not think 'no WAY!' and went with it - it was brilliant fun, all the more for it breaking some taboos. I didn't find it that gross, she was like his mother not his actual mother, he might have been a baby recently but he certainly wasn't one anymore, and she was only 2 years older so that's not even a remote factor for me.
 
I can see how Cordy and Connor was gross but it certainly didn't make me want to not watch the show anymore. I was just confused as to what possessed the all noble Cordy to do that. I found out later, of course and it makes sense so I think that it was a good arc.

See, that reasoning just makes zero sense to me. I mean, place yourself in that position. You have a baby in your life that you are fully acting as a parent for, you completely care for it in that way. Fast forward a couple of months and (suspension of disbelief) that baby is now 18 years old... would you honestly go from being that baby's parent to hoping in the sack with it in just a few months time (or ever for that matter)?! I mean seriously, the answer to that question HAS to be no and so THAT is what makes the Cordy/Connor thing just... ick. It makes no sense to me how anyone could find it not gross, i believe we are meant to find it gross cause it IS gross and so so wrong.
 
Too dark and creepy for my liking, to know and have seen Cordy tend to Connor when he was a baby and then see her bedding him... it was just ewww. But I think thats what the writers wanted to do, was gross us out and take us out of the comfort zone we had known and loved about Cordy.

But still to see a woman who had acted as a mother figure to a baby Connor then 5 months later "take him to bed" as a teenager is just weird. You expect this kind of stuff on American soap operas but not Angel, thankfully it only happened once where we saw it happen.
