This one's probably old too. I didn't dig deeply enough to discover a unique thread dedicated to both of them. (if there is one, apologies)

Connor and Dawn were both tools. Connor: a means to an end for Jasmine. Dawn was like camoulflage, human camoulflage used to disguise the key.

You could see them as a metaphor for adoption, or the foster kid. The mistake that wasn't meant to be.

As a result, both felt intense rage and confusion. "Why do I exist? Where do I belong?" Angst, angst, angst. And as a result of that, both were found to be annoying brats by tons of viewers.

Interestingly, they both become tolerable when they felt they belonged and had a sense of purpose. I really liked Connor by season 5 Angel. Dawn I always liked, despite her brattyness early on.



OK, I've managed to convince myself that the Whedonverse soul isn't literal, but anyways, along the "just a tool" line...

Connor and Dawn both appear to be moral beings. Apparently they both have souls. Of course Connor does, influencing Darla as he did. Is Dawn more than a beautiful green swirl of energy? She has a soul as well? The monks managed to ensoul her? Because Angel has a soul, so must Connor? Did Jasmine somehow ensoul Connor? If so, then apparently she (and the monks ) has access to mystical abilities beyond Willow, who can only retrieve souls. Or is that the case here as well. Connor and Dawn have retrieved, "preowned" souls.

I know this is pointless conjecture, just fun though.
 
well its an intresting thread, thats why Ive always wanted the two charecters to meet because they just have so much in common, it would be intresting to see how they would interact with each other.

With the subject of Dawn having a soul, I would guess she does with all the emotions she went through the last 3 years of the show, but I have to say that I wouldnt be surprised if she didnt. At the end of Season6, EvilWillow was talking to Dawn about turning her back into a green swirl of energy, ofcourse she couldve just been kidding but she could have some power to undo the process that the monks did.

And ofcourse between Dawn and Conner, Dawn got the short end of the stick when it came to powers, she didnt show any signs of any powers when she first started on the show till she ended the show. And there is the question: Can Dawns blood still open up portals to hell diminsions?

Dawn also reminds me of WonderWoman, if you look at Wondys origin, she was crafted from clay and made whole by Athena or some god and blessed with powers by all these gods but it's obvious that she has a soul or so it seems.
 
I think Dawn should be gifted by the Powers with visions and she and Connor should be the new dynamic duo. Maybe in Cleveland or something. Could make a good comic book at least. Maybe Glory would find a way back somehow and she and Connor would duke it out.

Actually, Dawn and Connor should get hitched. Then they should hook up with electro-girl Gwen. Then maybe round it out with Faith. It would be sort of like the Fantastic Four, but with three girls and a guy. Anyways, just dreamin.
 
What might be a good name for this foursome? Hmm. The Misfits. The Outsiders. The Conundrums. I should have thrown Illyria in there too I think.
 
Toss out Connor and you just described my ultimate fantasy! (Maybe you shouldn't have said "hook up"!) Of course, I'd need Eve. And Lilah. Hello salty goodness!
 
That would make a great saturday morning cartoon I think. Still hold out hope for a Buffy cartoon.
