As per request, here is the thread on the various conspiracies that abound (well, they abound fo me, anyhow) within the Buffyverse.

One of my favorites concerns the very obvious framing of Spike by Riley and the Initiative in the episode "As You Were." Rather than state my own arguments here, I will direct you to this very well presented argument provided by Squirrel Bait (hey, I didn't pick the use name) entitled

Captain Cardboard, or How I Learned To Stop Seething And Love "As You Were"

haha, well I needed a good laugh so I thank you for that. Honestly the writing was hilarious and made a few good points but all it proved alas, to me at least, was the plot holes of this episode and the weakness that I think haunted the storytelling of the entire season.

You want some crazy theories? I'll give you some crazy theories!

1. Willow put Cordy's dad in jail

Look, Mr Chase avoided the IRS successfully for way too many years to just get caught like that days before his daughter's graduation. Somebody had to inform the authorities. Well, who could have such knowledge? A person who can hack into computer systems. As you can see Willow's already under suspicion, I mean, how many hackers are there in Sunnydale anyway? Now, add Willow's activity in the We Hate Cordelia Club, as a founder and the president actually and it becomes obvious that Willow did it! First, she ruined Cordy's relationship with Xander, then put her father in jail. Truly diabolical and absolutely awesome! And we're what, surprised that D'Hoffryn wanted to give her Anya's job?

2. Giles is a part-time chaos worshipper

Seriously, it's like this guy actually wants apocalypses to happen. No, this isn't just some incompetence or stupidity, OK? You can't be this stupid, trust me, I'm pretty stupid myself, I'd know. Expert's opinion here. His contacts with demons, his completely ludicrous interpretations of old texts, his lack of responsibility with deadly books and artefacts, his constant withholding of potentially world-saving information - make no mistake, this quiet school librarian is into some dark ass shit!

3. The evil in Sunnydale operates like organized crime

Major is obviously the boss, he knows about everything that happens in the town, keeping the necessary balance between the needs of demons and humans. Amy's mother works for or at least cooperates with him - she's the person who created the device that allowed Faith to switch bodies with Buffy. Rack is in as well, it's why he helps Amy and Warren. The Sunnydale businesses owe their success to Machida, the snake demon. Even the teachers are a part of the conspiracy - Snyder, Ms French, Coach Marin and so on. Basically, the show is about a conflict between the slayer and her friends and the old powers of Sunnydale for the control of the Hellmouth. Scoobies manage to completely eradicate the entire syndicate, then defeat everyone who tries to grab the power after its demise, from the Trio to the high school demon summoners in "Help". In season 7 Buffy and her gang finally rule Sunnydale. Unchallenged, they destroy it.

Where's the crazy part. All that stuff is common knowledge in the conspiracy theorists' community. In fact, Joss himself actually confirmed two of the ones you mentioned. Course, he denied it later...

Awesome!
I like the above much better than I like the livejournal one.

I mean, I really don't like 'As You Were'- it's not funny, doesn't make any sense and Riley and Sam are annoying. The actress playing Sam is also an appalling actress, seriously one of the worst guest stars seen on the show.

I read the article and it was a really light, fun read...and then I made the mistake at looking at the comments board below it and I came over all queasy....🙁

Seriously, there is not enough vomit in the world for some of the opinions expressed there, not to mention all the Buffy-hate.

And well that you do like them. Joss personally confirmed that at least two of them are fact, but a group of fanskidnapped his wife and threatened to kill her unless he retracted his statements.

Nobody said that you have to believe the conspiracy actually existed. Very few people believe that John Kennedy, Elvis Presley, and Bruce Lee are all actually still alive, being held prisoner by Adolph Hitler's clone in a secret Neo Nazi prison camp in South America, either. That's the beauty of conspire theories.

I want this to be a movie.
Directed by Tarantino, natch.😀

Wait, the people making the comments on this LiveJournal are being satirical right? At least I hope so.

Actually, the last I heard, John Ford was directing. James Cagney has already been cast in Lee's part, and James Dean is the top runner to play Elvis. There's a REALLY wild rumor that Richard Nixon has secretly been taking acting lessons in preparation for trying out for Kennedy, but a conspiracy theory can only stretch so far, then it becomes unrealistic.
