I'm going to my first convention this October...and have no idea what happens at a convention really...apart from a lot of queueing, lol. I was hoping peeps could maybe post their experiences of Buffy and Angel conventions, maybe what they did that day, what was their fave part of it, any funny stories etc I'm just curious as to what happens, the whole mood of the place and stuff.

I've been to a couple of comic/sci-fi conventions and while they are fun they aren't all that great. Largely there are a lot of people selling stuff and there is a place where the speakers... speak (sorry, brain-freeze). There will probably also be a place where there are autograph signings. I advise taking a bit of cash with you, for two reasons.
1 - They charge for everything
2 - You'll want to buy at least 1 thing

I hope you have fun at the convention ur going to, I'll be going to one at the end of August.

I just got to go to my first convention! WOW, what an experience that was. ALOT of people, different kinds too. and WAHOO! I got to meet Amber Benson! SHe is a really down to earth kind of person, we didn't know which picture we wanted signed, so the goddess signed them all, all five of them, now what kind of celeb would do that, she sat there and talked to us for a good while and took LOTS of pictures with us, if any of you get a chance to meet her DO IT! She is really a true star!

THERE'S BtVS AND AtS CONVENTIONS!? Wow... I seriously am a bad fan...

I MUST GO AND MEET SMG! ... Nothing but immaculate thoughts in my head... 😉

Alas MentP SMG has only ever been to one, and that was about the Grudge, unless that was sarcasm I didn't get.

I'm probably going to the one with Nicky in October but its going to cost me £20 to get there then "£10-20" for a signature.

Oooh Boy , I'm not MentP but yeah that was sarcasm. Hope nobody will be offended by this but personaly she is not the kind of guest that I would want to see at a con. I've seen her talk show appearances and found them pretty dull. No reason for me to pay a lot of money for a similar experiance.

Thanks for the replies, really interesting to read 🙂

I'd be shocked to see SMG at a Buffy convention. I can imagine her making sure tickets were £500 each or something stupid.

What convention are you going to?

I've been to 2 so far. Both were run by Sector 14. A great organisation who I hope do another one soon. Cons are lots of fun, I end up going with a large group of friends and not getting much sleep due to dancing on tables.

Things are changing now, they guests used to mingle at the parties and stuff but due to overcrowding and some fans going well OTT they don't feel confortable and its not safe. Would you want to be followed around everywhere but lots of people screaming?

I've been to two so far. First, I went to Creation's Salute to Buffy & Angel in New Jersey (with Nick Brendon and Iyari Limon). It was a pretty small con and I was only there for the day. Then, just last week I went to Vulkon's SlayerCon in Oakland, California. The guest list was huge! There were 16 different actors and it was three days long. It was seriously one of the best times of my entire life. I got to meet Alexis Denisof, James Marsters, and Tony Head (among others!) - it was a dream come true. I actually wrote a whole convention report based on notes I took while there, which you can find here. But really, if you're a huge fan (which I assume we all are here 😉, definitely try to check out a convention. Both mine were Buffy/Angel specific, which helps. They can cost a lot, but it's totally worth it 🙂

I'm also going to a convention in October, in bout 2 and a half weeks actually. It's an Angel convention, but there are going to be Firefly (Joss' other show) guests there too. It's called The White Room. It's gonna be my first con and i'm sooo excited, I don't know what it's gonna be like, and I have heard lots of different reactions bout different con organisers, but only good stuff bout the one im gonna be at, so hopefully I can come back and tell you great stuff about it. Which con are you going to SilverLiner?

Well a full write up of my first convention can be found in the Collectorama thread. I had a good time, it was in a shopping centre though so it was super crowded, but free to get into. I was a bit annoyed trying to get around all the stalls as everyone was barging and slow. Good time overall though.

And yeah its costly, thinking about it.

£13- train
£15- entry to Buffy talk
£20- Nick's signature
£10- Custom frame for sig
£15- Fray
£10- Taxis
£2.50- Glossy Aly pic

Then money for food and the like.

I was considering going to London Expo this weekend, to meet both Amber and Eliza.. (Can't really think of any two people I would like to meet more than them right now.) But I had no one to go with and it would've been so expensive. Travel to London, live somewhere, the tickets, the autographs.. Aww, I really wanted though, I've become such a nerd in the last two months (thanks to this board probably).. A year ago I would've never even thought about paying that lot of money to meet a celebrity or buy stupid things like action figures..

There is an annual convention held every November in Columbus, Ohio that I always go to. Someone from either Buffy/Angel or both is always there.

2002=got to meet Andy Hallet. Great guy by the way.

2003=Andy again and the actors who played Clem and the Groosulug

2004=Clare Kramer, she's even more beautiful in person.

I wish I could go to one. I missed the only close convention over the boarder a year ago. There was Kate Mulgrew, Robert Picardo, both from ST:VOY, some other big actors I wanted to meet, Anthony Head, Nicholas Brendon, and Emma Caulfield. and I missed it cause someone decided to pick a fight with me...
Don't even have an autograph... from anyone!
