The Buffy/Holden and Willow/Cassie scenes are the best thing about this episode for me.

That's one of my favoritest eppys ever.

I also thought that it was The First messing with Dawn. But what makes me think it was something else (& that The First just "piggy backed" onto it...) was that it literally PHYSICALLY hurt Dawn. It threw her against the wall. Cut her face. Threw things about in the room.

Throughout Season 7, the First was, of course, non-corporeal. It couldn't "pick up a knife" & cut a character... which is why it had "Warren" convince Andrew to kill Johnathon. So if it WAS The First messing with Dawn, how did it do all that cool spooky stuff and physically assault her?

To tired to read through the thread, so this might have been said;

Of on the writers(jane espenson-something) answered in a interview that it was not Joyce, it was the first. I'm not a hundred per cent sure if she meant this apperance of joyce or the one in Buffy dreams, but I bet it's both times.

It could have been a warlock working for the first that put on the show in the house, or maybe all the stars where in a trangle or something and the first could do magic for a while.

Jane Espensen has a certain level of credence because she is a writer, but the fact remains that until we're told something within the text, its open for discussion because its not proven with the Buffy World.


On a side note, I would have liked Xander to have said something in the next episode, something along the lines of 'I just spent the night talking to Jesse, now you're telling me its The First...I should have realised that when he said...'.

It would have been a nice little touch to realise that not everything that happens, we see on the screen.

I really agree with that and i love it when something happens that we don't see on the screen like in 'Once More With Feeling' when Buffy says 'Did anyone burst into song?' and Willow replies saying, 'We thought it was just us.'

I also think Jesse would have been a good character to do the whole First thing with.
