Had a horrible nightmare about The Beast, so I took a break after completing the 4th season.


Thoughts on this episode...


It's great to see Harmony and Spike again, plus I like Knox.

Recognize him from BTVS, where he played Holden Webster.

Sadly I found this episode to be pretty weak overall.

The opening scene was a bit too "Caped Crusader" like for me. And what TH is goin on with Boreanaz's hair?


It looked awful.

This whole fighting evil from the "belly of the beast" is goin to be a HARD SELL. But I'll still reserve judgement for now.

My sister told me about Denisof's having Bell's Palsy back then. Whedon and Co. did a pretty good job shooting him from angles to hide to affected side of his face.

It's ironic, this eppy is titled Conviction.


J. August Richards went on to co-star in the short lived NBC legal drama Conviction in 2005. Alongside BTVS alumn Eric Balfour, who played Jessie.

Where they both played Lawyers. Richards currently plays a Lawyer on the TNT series Raising the Bar.

Yeah, I was like WTF when I saw David's hair... I was like "Grab some clippers and cut his hair, STAT!"
I know, when I first watched this I thought "OMG, what the hell is going on with David's hair?? He needs to cut it, like, right now!" And I agree about the opening scene... It was so cheesy.
I didn't like Eve at first but she grew on me. I never cared for Lilah much at all...

Angel's hair was was like that because he heard that Spike was going to be there with him for the entire season.

Didn't like Lilah at 1st, but she grew on me.


The actress had great on-screen chemistry with Boreanaz and Alexis Denisof. Lilah should've been the liason between Team Angel and the Senior Partners.

not the annoying 14 yr old playing dress up.
 
Lilah was alright, but I didn't like Stephanie Romanov on "Models Inc." back in the day, and I didn't like her on "Angel". And I hated it even worse when they paired Lilah with Wesley. *shudder*
 
I don't remember how I reacted when I first saw him but I don't really like that character now. He should have never gotten his own episode....

Yeah, really! WTF is up with a season that sucks so bad that the mailroom guy gets his own episode? WOW.
 
They had more than 1 throwaway episode in S5... I can name a few. It is definitely not the best season, although it does have it's high points.

I just watched this episode for the 1st time ever a few hours ago.

I agree that should have brought Lilah back for the 5th season and had her be the Liaison to the senior partners, instead of that little 12-year old looking girl named Eve.

I also hated Angel's hair in the episode.
 
I just watched this episode again last week, since TK was at season 5 in his rewatching and I'm not gonna say no to seeing some Angel eps. 😉 I think it's a fantastic introduction to the new setup they had for the season. There was so much to fit in though, that the first time I watched it I felt as lost as the characters did. 😛 Might have been Angel's hair distracting me...
 
i liked the whole 'Beast' arc, especially with Faith coming back n all. 🙂

Oh and when i saw Davids hair i was like eek where's the scissors!
 
Really with the hair hating? I thought he looked pretty cool with his hair a little longer and combed back. It gave his face a slightly different look--more serious even. Well, maybe more serious. I liked the opening "avenger" thing too. David's so great at playing those befuddled moments, at the pre-pouting moments where he's just so confused about what's going on.

Overall I liked this episode, although I couldn't stand the guy... you know, the bad guy guy. He was creepy in the bad way that makes me... not... enjoy watching him.

Plus, the W&H S.W.A.T. team gun-kicking-death at the end was brutal and awesome. Angel really kicked some rear-end there. Also I greatly enjoyed season 5, and even though it was a weird one, I liked "The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco". Then again I tend to like the weird stuff.
 
I liked the first episode. A good introduction to the new world that Angel will face in S5. Also one of the reasons Lilah wasn't brought back is that part of the agreement for bringing back Angel for another season was to cut expenses and to add a popular character from Buffy to encourage cross-viewership. So they cut Cordelia, Connor and Lilah and said Hello Spike! Eve is cheaper.


I also heard a rumor that Morena Baccarin was supposed to play Eve but she was busy at the time. That would have been some fun cross-pollination
 
Ah, how much more I would have loved Eve if Morena Baccarin played her. That other actress always made me thing of Full House... it... it just didn't work for me. Still too bad that they couldn't have brought back Lilah and made her the liaison, or at least bring her back for a special appearance.
 
I started watching s5 yesterday. I didn't really get this episode, but it was great to see Harmony (Blondie Bear, typing hero LMAO) and Spike again. Didn't like Eve at all. I miss Lilah too, she was so cool
 
First time I saw Conviction was after one week of crying at Spikes's death in Chosen (found out on the net that he was resurrected in AtS S5, so I watched S5 first). It was a totally changed rhythm, so different from what I knew of Wesley and Harmony, Angel in a sunlight office then shock: Angel killing a human to prove his point. I was so caught in the story that I forgot I was watching it to see Spike again, in the end he was only the cherry on top.

Later in S5 when Wesley regained his memories, all that flashbacks determined me to watch Angel from S1.

I never knew this about Morene Baccarin. Thinking about it, I can actually see her playing that character, but I liked Sarah Thompson, I thought she did a good enough job, but it would have been nice to see another of Joss' veterans on the show.
