Did anyone else notice that cordelia and buffy had very similar lives.
Both where popular in high school
Both where once cheerleaders
Both lost their popularity
Both of them have lived in LA and in sunnydale
Both of them left their home towns to go to another and fight evil
Both where given powers without having a say in the matter
Both fight evil
Both have been to paradise
Both have sorta died and come back (buffy s1 and cordelia series 5)
Both have loved angel
Both of them have the power to make angel lose his soul, well sort of
Both of them felt threatened by faith

Well after season 3 I'm not sure what that may mean, but Cordelia in Buffy was there to show where Buffy came from. Buffy basically was Cordelia in L.A. as we saw in Becoming. It showed how her calling had altered her outlook and priorities in life.

Cordelia's change was more gradual over the high school years. It wasn't until she inherited the visions in S1 of ATS that she really began to change.

Something I was thinking about as well both Cordelia and Spike suffered from regular neurological pain.

Anyway I agree with Cordelia, Cordy (the character) was there to show just how much Buffy changed. But yeah there are quite a lot of similarities. Trying to think of some more but im stumped.

They both also had comfy lifestyles that quickly changed (It was most likely that Buffy was upper-middle class when she lived in LA and her parents were together).

I've always wondered why they were never close, but I guess they were too much a like Plus that whole rivalry thing.

Well I always thought that if the whole Welcome To The Hellmouth Bronze thing didnt happen, Buffy probably wouldve still been in good terms with Cordelia and have the possiablity of being one of the Cordettes so to speak.

Now that wouldve made an intresting alternate reality.

I thnk cordy and buffy are sort of the same but cordys change didnt begin until three/four years after buffy, so buffy was layway in front which ight be why a connection wasn't really obvious

I've always wondered the same thing.

Everytime I see that scene I cring, I'm like "No Buffy! Your gonna be a loser for 3 years now."

I could see Buffy and Cordy and Harmony going on patrol together, lots of laughs.

Well Buffy had the whole slayer thing and divorved parents before Cordy which is what brought about her change. Cordy didnt have that; when Cordy got the no money, visions/demon girl thats when she started to change.

But see atleast Willow, Xander and Buffy got some. When did we ever see Harmony with a guy in high school?? She didn't get any until after she became a vamp and even then you could tell she had no idea of what a man really wants 🙂

Anyhoo..offtopic, but I think Cordelia didn't feel the weight of the world's problems until To Shanshu in LA.

Yup they had quite similar lives, but one thing makes them a whole lot different. The reason I like Cordelia more than I ever liked Buffy. Cordelia chosed to do what she did over and over again, she wasn't the chosen one (if we pretend the Jasmine thing never happened), but she chosed to be the one. Whereas Buffy didn't really have that much choice she was the one and only dieing would change that. The Gift was just as much saving Dawn as saving herself and escaping the Slayer burdens. So they kinda went separate paths there.

About Cordelia feeling threatened by Faith I don't think so, not really. Of course she was afraid of her, after all she was a psycho slayer. Whereas Buffy's unliking of Faith was more like a sibling one.

I completely agree with you!
Yeah, that is a little like the Spike/Angel soul thing.. Not really but..

Still, no matter the reasons why Buffy and Cordelia did what they did and "chose" what they did.. I think the changes in their lives were very similar. They happened because of different things, definitely, and their lives were very different in many ways (even though the similarities).. but the changes from that popular girl to knowing things and wanting to run away from them and blah blah to a character that is kind of sad and really focused on the mission.. Eh, it's just the feeling I get from them, as characters. I like them both in very different ways but I feel the same way about their changes.. They change in the same way.. Um..

Also both of them didn't like Spike
And both of there love lives where messed up
